Boquete Panama

Cool, Green and the best Coffee in the world

If just visiting Boquete do you recommend renting a car or depend on public transportation/taxis,etc? And do rentals come with Insurance? Is an international drivers license ok for a visitor?

The desire would to be able to travel without too much worry and not feel stuck.

And if the choice to return and stay occurred, where do you recommend starting to look for reasonable transportation in Boquete? Everything from car sales, insurance, license, to validating the purchase, in my mind, will be quite a pilgrimage. Thoughts, hints, ideas?

And if you have some good rental options feel free to link them in the rental as well

Thanks!

If it is in your budget, rent a car. Rentals available in both Boquete and David. If you fly into David, reserve a rental there. I have used Dollar rent a car via the internet and have had good luck so far.

International driver's license is OK. I use the American Express extra insurance feature to avoid paying the extra insurance. If you have an Amex card, pay for the rental with it. CHeck with Amex first to make sure you understand what they offer. Other cards may have a similar feature, I don't know.

Great thanks again Seig.

Dollar rent a car sounds like the way to go.

I do have the AMEX platinum feature, with additional rental coverage. Excellent reminder. In fact they sent me something recently where once filled out they covered, from what they claimed, more than any other card could. I will call to be sure.

Thanks again. I will look up the Dollar rental car later today or tomorrow and post it in the Boquete rentals section. Feel free to comment or beat me to it.

Random thought. Good news this morning here, always great to see things turn around. When reality unfolds in ones favor the spirit smiles as truth is presented. :)

I would agree that renting a car at the David airport would be the most practical way to get to Boquete and to get around afterward.

My comments would be to choose a 4x4 SUV if you want to get to mountain areas ,especially if you are coming during the rainy seaon (starts in April) as it can get pretty muddy then on roads that aren't paved. We live up in alto jaramillo which is a pretty rough road at the end and we make it without a 4x4 but we do have a SUV.

If you decide to stay for any great length of time, it may be more practical to buy a used vehicle. You can find used car lots in David and sometimes you will see one for sale by owner here in Boquete. That's what we did because car rental can really add up. Also, you could probably easily resell a 4x4 SUV here.

When we get our vehicle from the US here, that's what we will do ....sell the used SUV that we bought.

Hope this helps you out.

I always posting new things - about all those things you are asking for.

Yes rentals charge A LOT in insurance which unfortunatly is where rentals make their $ so unless you convience them to give you the car's title you can't get outside insurance.
