Boquete Panama

Cool, Green and the best Coffee in the world

We will be moving to the Boquete area, specifically The Portorellios area,in Feb. 2009 and have a few questions, actually, request. I will be bringing down a 40 Ft. Container and will need a secure area to store our container until we buy some property. somewhere along the Boquete, David Hi-way will be OK.for the time being, then I will have it moved to our property when we purchase
Also, will be opening up a bank account with HSBC,down there Probably. My wife and I are retired Military, and I am also retired Civil service, and wonder if anyone there is like wise, and if they have their retirement checks deposited to a bank down there. I have contacted HSBC here, and they don't know because its two different banking systems. Considered having our funds transfered, but the transfer fees are excessive.
Thanks, Don Kirby and Shellie Leon

Hi Martine,

We are finally on the ground here in Alto Boquete. Our container has arrived in Panama and we are making arrangements to get it to Boquete. An expensive process, they are quoting us $1400 for a 20 foot container. We will need some local helpers to help unload the container. Also, all the stuff will not fit in the house and we have rented storage for the rest. Will need a truck and more strong backs to load and take the stuff from the house to the storage facility and unload.

At any rate, can you give me a local telephone # to contact you here in Boquete? We would appreciate any assistance you have. We can be reached at 6946-1117.

Penny Barrett (Boquete resident) can provide you with information about storing a container and/or the contents. She and some partners have opened a storage facility with dehumidifiers and lighting. You can contact her at pjbarrett@aol.com.

Hi Don & Shellie
My partners and I are almost ready to open a great mini storage facility on the Boquete-David road just 1.5 km north of the Portrerrillos Road. You can off load your container into one of our secure and dry storage bins or you can park your own container in our fenced, lighted and guarded yard. We can arrange for a crane to remove your container from the wheels although it is quite expensive.
If you unload your container into one of our storage bins, the bin will have constant air movement to prevent mold. For an extra charge you can arrange for a dehumidifier.
You can contact me for more information:

I retired from the Coast Guard and Hillsborough County. I opened an account with HSBC when I arrived, but was not happy with the service and closed the account about a year later. I bank with USAA in the States and have all my retirement checks direct deposited there. I have found that I can do anything with them by computer and I use the ATM's for all my local needs. The fee with the ATM's is less than I was paying HSBC for services and I have yet to find anyone who would not accept cash. I would check with USAA before you leave the States and see if it works for your situation. Good luck. Burt and Elaine Folce

Thanks Burt, will be down there in Feb to iron out some of our moving details, and will look into the local banking situation. We plan on starting up a business when we get settled in, and will need a local bank.

Thanks Allan. I will be needing a customs broker agent when I get there. My problem now is how to get my container off-loaded where I want to store it. The container will be mine, and I will use it for storage while I am building my home. If you have any ideas on this , let me know. I will be in touch in a few weeks when we get our travel plans firmed up.
