Regarding Censorship

I received a passionate email from a former member of this site who is offended by certain posts and wished to let me know why she left.

Although I will not post her email, I do want to post my response.

"I respect your opinion.

I will however not duplicate the censored environment of other sites short of deleting obscene images or totally off topic posts and pictures.

I have no idea who Bradley is but he is testing the boundaries, his comments are his comments and his only and not either mine or yours. I am going to stand by my original concept of providing one place the 1st Amendment applies in Panama. If people leave for their own reasons that is their prerogative.

I have been afraid of where all this has been going and thought to look a little deeper. For the sake of the children who might be tempted to look at this site, PLEASE at least take off Bradleys website which gives instant access to some very unsavoury material. There are not even any parental warnings. I firmly believe that is regulation for the common good in the name of decency and the protection of young minds. There are plenty of other sites, I am sure, where this kind of stuff can be placed without any problems at all.

Lee, I agree wholeheartedly with you. I'm tired of the morality police telling us what's right and wrong, what we should and shouldn't do.

Some people need to grow up (regardless of their age) and start thinking and acting for themselves, taking responsibility for their actions. What someone else says or does is something I can evaluate and judge my level of agreement. At this age, I've probably seen and heard it all, however I'm open to seeing and hearing more, for this life is a great adventure to be enjoyed. I choose not to suffer - due to my choices or other's. I can disagree completely with what another may say or do, but I'll defend their right to do it as long as they're not hurting another.

Reluctantly I have to ban another member. I asked "Pedro" to remove his sexually suggestive images from the site. His response was caustic but wold have been acceptable if he complied. Since he did not and the images were irrelevant to Boquete I had to remove his account.

Thank you, Lee. It wasn't only his images that were offensive... his rants, remarks and accusations toward others here were abusive.

Many of us here are not from he USofA, and although the analogy may be fitting, I feel diminished by your assumtion that the American 1st Amendment is a determinant in my ability to share my truth with others on your Panamanian site

I am in agreement with the content and flow of the discussion. My problem is [and it''s my problem!] that Lee refers to part of his ctireria for using the forum as being based on 1st Amendment rights. As a Canadian, and someone who wants to participate, the use of an American constitutional ammendment makes me feel this isn't an international forum. I get the intention is good, but in that I feel irrelevant.
