This snake was found in a small tree in our yard just at the edge of the cliff above the golf course. No one seems to know what kind it is but believe it to be poisonous. Can anyone give us information about this snake?

Someone had posted that the snake in the tree might be a boa. I posted this picture of an actual Boa to demonstrate the snake in the tree. a Tigre snake, was NOT a boa.
Snakes leave a scent as they pass and when they feel vibrations they often return on the same path and people assume they are being chased. If you were attacked that's a whole different story. Coachwhips are aggressive and command respect. The word chased causes many myths to gain credibility and a lot of snakes to get killed. Did not mean to question your integrity, and hope you weren't trying to out run a proven athlete.
I looked it up and yes, it's non poisonous, with a few common names like chicken rat snake. It can be found in trees like where it was seen and lives in southern Central America.
This is the second time I have posted. The folks that killed it didn't feel good about it obviously, and wanted to learn more so they don't make the same mistake twice. At this point that is all any of us can ask. Lighten up. The great thing is that everybody, including me, has learned a thing about snakes in general and in this area. I thank the original poster for that.
I wish people would take the time to educate themselves about the things that are venomous or poisonous. You're living in Panama and if your going to freak out every time you see a bug or a snake then it's best you go back from where you came. Panama has a multitude of critters there, most of which will not hurt you, but on the other hand are quite beneficial and won't bother you anyway. Killing an innocent snake then posting about it after is a disgrace. Shame on you. Instead of spending time on Ning why don't you do some research. It could be life or death, not just the snake's.
I agree, and 5 pages on .ning because a snake got killed?...
