TerrorNow that is what you call true leadership, and a leader who really cares about his country and people.

Czech President Urges Citizens To Arm Themselves, Fight Terrorists, Close Borders.

Speaking in an interview in the wake of a fortnight of terror attacks in Europe, the president of the Czech Republic has said the only solution to terrorism is removing the cause — deporting failed migrants — and has said in the meanwhile citizens need to be armed and ready to defend themselves and others.

Noting that he had before the recent terror attacks committed predominantly by Muslim first and second generation migrants, been against the proliferation of firearms, the president said in an interview with Czechia’s Blesk that citizens should consider carrying their pistols in public. Remarking that he’d already bought his wife a handgun, he told the paper:

I really think that citizens should arm themselves against terrorists. And I honestly admit that I changed my mind, because previously I was against [citizens] having too many weapons. After these attacks, I don’t think so [anymore]”.

The Czech president said he was now in favour of arming the population over “the long term” and said he was convinced that if any of the revellers at the Bataclan music venue in Paris had been carrying a gun in their pocket when it was attacked by Islamist killers, there would have been fewer casualties.

  • You got the Nazi part right

  • So different from Switzerland? They allow gun ownership. Remember, we have had this conversation before. It's not gun laws but culture that dictates gun issues.

  • You are not atheist, so what are you? I am a Pastafarian, how about you?

  • Walter,

No generalizing. Not everybody comes from the Walhalla they call Switzerland. Why leave the best country in the world is beyond me.

  • Walter, I was told that my new handgun will be ready for pickup at the security ministry next week. I ordered it over two years ago. Yes there is a moratorium on new guns, new ammunition is still readily available.

It was explained to me by one of the security ministry employees that the reason the continuation of the moratorium was because there was a back log of over 10,000 permits for new guns when the new agency responsible for guns and permits (DIASP) took over from the old agency (DIJ). They have supposedly "only" have 3000 permits for the existing new guns in the armory still waiting to be processed and once they are caught up then the moratorium will be lifted. I was also told by numerous attorneys and the DIASP employees themselves that "expats" with permanent residency status can import up to three new firearms into Panama every 5 years. Just waiting for the moratorium to be lifted as my and my wife's paperwork is already filled out.

Pretty good deal as a new Glock handgun currently is selling in the $3000 range in Panama if you can find one. The same Glock is selling for around $500 in the US.

I have met "connected" people at the range who have successfully and legally imported their guns including AR-15s, the "scary looking black assault rifles". Got to shoot one last year and boy are they sweet.

  • Now who is hurling insults, Walter?
You are no better than anyone here however the difference is that WE live here where as you try to live here vicariously, what a hollowed-out shell of a Swiss Solder you have evolved into!

No discipline, no guts, no nuts, no value added!!

“So please keep your idiotic comment to yourself and try to discuss like an adult without trumpeting childish insults”

“are trying to get me riled up with these low-intellect idiocies but really can't see how you can imagine that it would work” --I think it’s working just fine!

  • Walter, I do enjoy your points but I need to explain something. You think it is fear that drives me rather than a realistic mind set for the existing conditions of the world we live in. I have no more fear of low lives than I do of poor road conditions. The same reason one decides to wear a seatbelt, has a spare tire with jack, and or takes other road safety precautions is why one would chose to carry a gun. No one wants to get into an accident but they do happen. Why not be prepared for that possibility.
I no more want to die in a car crash than I do in a violent home invasion but unfortunately these things are part of life. You wear your seatbelt and so will I.

Send me a message next time you are in Boquete and we can go shoot some guns together. Only at paper targets I promise.
  • Walter, I do appreciate your point of view. I just hoped you could look at the situation through a more realistic lens. Yes one has to responsible and aware when carrying a firearm but the notion that one is paranoid and living in fear is a false notion. When I put my pants on in the morning I remove my weapon from its safe area and do a weapons safety and ready check before I put it on my belt. After that I really don't think about it anymore. Some people carry a pocket knife, some a flashlight, some a first aid kit, some tissues. No different.

I hope to never need to pull my weapon or use it for any reason. But if I was in either of the two real scenarios I presented to you then yes I would pull my weapon and do my best to protect innocent lives.

If more and more people were encouraged to do the same and become responsible gun owners than I feel we would live in a much safer society. My opinion, I get it, your is different.

My issue with you is that I am not trying to convince you that you must own or carry a gun. I am not trying to pass laws forcing you to own or carry a weapon.

I do feel that you and what I consider a liberal leaning mind set would try and convince others that they should not have guns and I think you would support laws that prohibit others from protecting themselves and owning/carry firearms.

If that is not an accurate assessment of how you feel than my apologies and I agree it best to leave it at that. To each his own....

  • Walter, glad to hear that you love guns.

I guess our disconnect is that you like big globalist government over individual rights.

Yes, you knew what answer I would give. I don't need or want some jack booted thug policeman or soldier to protect me. I will protect myself and my family. I am sure you have already heard me say when seconds count the police are only minutes away.

You thesis that when everybody starts carrying a gun for protection it will turn to anarchy is the opposite of reality. The fact is that the lowest crime areas are where people legally carry firearms and the highest crime areas are where guns are "banned". How is Chicago looking. Look at the recent German shooting or one of the above two examples I gave you. In every one of those cases those guns used by the criminals were banned and illegal.

Yes is is a challenge when the police or much later SWAT arrives. Yes there is a chance that they accidentally kill the "good guy". It sucks just like it sucks when the police shoot unarmed black men. But it is still way better for you and your daughter in the scenarios I gave you than the alternative. Can't you just admit that?

  • Waiting for the additional "derogatory" you owe me. lol. Giving you a chance here.

As for your argument above comparing deaths of lung cancer, heart attacks, and the like to gun deaths as a reason to not have guns it is ridiculous in my opinion.

How many people do you know that have died in a house fire? Probably not many if any. Yet I am sure that you would recommend that all homes have a "loaded" and functional fire extinguisher would you not. It is not about the chances of needing it but rather to have it in case it is needed.

A gun, a fire extinguisher, a hammer, a pencil, etc. are just tools. Blaming guns for peoples stupid actions is like blaming spoons for making people fat or blaming pencils for misspelled words. We get it, you don't like guns. I am OK with that and I recommend you never get a gun. But please stop telling others that "guns are bad" and using unrelated sway tactics in your arguments. Yes, shooting someone in the back for taking your stuff is probably not the best use of a gun. However lets change the scenario.

You are in a crowded theater with your family and friends enjoying the show when a small group of heavily armed Muslim extremists loyal to ISIS come in, spread out and start killing individuals one by one. You watch in horror as they torture and execute the friends you came with right in front of your eyes. Luckily for you one of the crazy peeps next to you, whom you had no idea was carrying a handgun, takes his out and carefully places two shots the the chest and one the the head of the terrorist right before he was about to execute your daughter. You and your family seizes the opportunity to run away and LIVE.

Do you still hate guns and the "crazies" who carry them? Yes the above scenario is realistic.

How about your are at a huge street celebration with thousands of people and see in the distance a large truck, driven by a some crazy Muslim extremist loyal to ISIS, running people over and he is headed in the direction of your daughter who is "frozen" in the middle of the street. Luckily for you one of the crazy peeps takes out his handgun and empties his magazine into the drivers side windshield of the truck killing the driver and ending the massacre.

Do you still hate guns and the "crazies" who carry them?

    Common sense logic.
