I have purchased a one way ticket to PTY in March. Is this a problem entering PTY? When I purchased it online they said nothing of a required return ticket.
Thanks guy,

You need to be a member of Boquete Ning to add comments!
Last time I flew from the US to Panama was a few months ago on United. They insisted on a return ticket until I provided my Cedula E. With that "permanent resident card" I was not required to buy a return ticket. One more reason to have a legal status if you actually intend to be more than a tourist.
I arrived at the airport in the U.S. at 4:45am, on 7/3/13 with one way ticket to Panama, having been told I wouldn't need a RT ticket by an American living in Boquete. The ticket agent there told me that neither the U.S. nor the Panamanian gov't would allow me to leave the country without a RT ticket.
So I had to purchase another one way return ticket right there on the spot! I was advised to cancel the return ticket within 24 hours--or 5:00 am the next next day. It was the first thing I did at the hotel in Panama. The manager cancelled my return flight as I was dealing with a Spanish speaking ticket agent. Had I forgotten to do it, I would have been charged for the ticket!
Everyone should remember--Rules Change All The Time! What worked yesterday, may not work today. Check with the Airline and Double Check. I know it doesn't make sense. But, we are in Panama!
I am in contact with Maria now and she is setting me up and will mail the ticket to me. Now, I can leave Houston with a onward ticket. Thank you so much.
I left from Houston on July 14 to move here (currently on a tourist visa till I have perm.status) and flew United. I was required to either purchase a round trip ticket to the US or an additional one way ticket from Panama . I opted for a one way from PTY to San Jose CR on Copaairlines....was inexpensive and fully refundable when you cancel.
Hope this helps
As Keith writes, the problem is likely to be at the U.S. airport of departure. When I left from Houston in mid-July to return to Panama, the agent wanted to see a return ticket but was satisfied that my carnet provided proof of Panama residency. Every kiosk I've ever used has asked for a date of return to the U.S., so it was necessary to get an agent involved.
I have entered Panama at Tocumen maybe 6 times on a one way ticket. I have never had a problem. The last time was July 6th. Always the people at immigration have been very, very pleasant. It really helps if you speak Spanish. I'm not saying that you will not have a problem, just that I never have. Also, I have lived here for more than 3 years on a tourist visa.
I feel like they sold me the ticket knowing and if I needed a round trip it should have been known at purchase. I'll call United Airlines now and ask why they sold me a one way if a round trip is needed. I'm leaving out of Houston.

A few months ago when my husband was returning to Panama,
he had a one way ticket and they made him go and buy a return ticket at the ticket counter.
It was Spirit airlines out of Atlantic City, NJ.
You can contact this company in order to purchase your ticket out of Panama. It can be open date.
Price is $42. Excellent option and you can leave Panama from David to San Jose.
