The Transit Authority and Land Transport (ATTT) announced Sunday that from Monday January 26 strong operational focus on buses and public transport will take place this after the accidents reported Sunday in Chiriqui and whose causal Arraiján was irresponsible a driver.
Speeding, excess passengers, driver did not meet the age, and using cell were part of the causes and anomalies found, explained Victor Saturn, managing director of the ATTT news conference Sunday.
About Chiriquí accident, the driver, who died, was 23, so it did not meet the age established traffic rules. Was also reported that he was speeding and chatting on cell phones. The bus was 22 and had about 27 passengers on board.
On the case of Arraiján, reportedly speeding and passenger was causal.
Saturn called to the borrowing public transport to comply with the regulation, "as he will give the responsibility of the steering wheel and a 30 passenger bus someone of 23 years," questioned the managing director of the ATTT.
He explained that recruitment of 84 inspectors more to strengthen operations were performed, but was emphatic that the cooperation of the citizens in that abnormalities in the streets to report them ATTT is necessary.
David Ramirez, leader of the Movement October 23, noting regretted being retaking agreements and conventions presented in the previous administration on public transport to improve the system to prevent such tragedies.
The ATT apply appropriate sanctions, including the termination of the operating certificate to David bus - Armuelles involved in the accident.
In so far this year there have been 36 fatalities and 60 injured in traffic accidents in 25 days a year. There have been about 126 accidents.

Driving from David to Boquete today we saw several busses and vans pulled over in inspection stations with multiple police vehicles set up along the road. We wondered what was going on until arriving today and reading this thread.
I'm glad they're doing that now. Way past time.
The first five years we lived in Panama we were in San Pablo Viejo on the road to San Carlos. The buses had so many people on them they were literally hanging out the door. People were standing all the way back in the isles, crowded around the driver and hanging out the open door. I'd say that's way too many people on the bus and it wasn't a once in awhile thing, it was every single day.
These buses put on a LOT of miles every day. I would think the tires, shocks and suspension should be checked frequently. No harm in checking the tires daily just as the truck drivers in the US are required to do. I certainly hope President Varela and the ATTT initiate some stricter safety requirements moving forward.
Tires are the main problems around here, along with not using lights at night (ome seems to think it would overuse the battery) just check at any parking place...You can have expensive cars with flat tires...with the heat and the holes in the roads, they explode...
Sort of sounds like when the gun violence happens in the U.S. "Oh, how sad!" And it goes on. Also 100,000 people in the U.S. die each year from medical mistakes. Negligence and wanton disregard is universal. It's sad anywhere it happens, when we know it could be different.
Perhaps safety inspections of buses, trucks and cars would be a good idea. That is the idea of the annual revisado "inspection" but it has become pay the fee and get the pass.
Certainly for vehicles providing public transportation services.
Here's a report of a very similar accident in La Chorrera that happened at 11:30 a.m.
An accident this morning on the Arraiján-La Chorrera Highway involving a coaster bus left two children dead and 19 people injured.
The children were eight months and four years.
The accident happened at 11:30 a.m. near the village of Bique.
Those injured were rushed to Nicolás A. Solano Hospital in La Chorrera.
