Hi,
Can someone who is very knowledgeable in this explain to me first when is this baggage restriction (I thought it was over, but Copa is saying it's not) & what it's for. It only allows you to take one extra bag from what I can see.
I also want to confirm it's only for Copa airlines & not for American airlines?
And it's for flying out of Panama & into Panama, or only flying in?
I think it's only for Latin American countries, but I just don't understand it in the first place.
Thanks
Michelle

The previous posts of 2 checked bags and one carry on with the weights posted are my current knowledge. The hitch is that Copa code shares with US Air. Everything is fine if you are on a COPA/US Air direct flight. If your first leg lands in anywhere in the US, it is considered a domestic flight for that leg and you get nailed for the extra fees. The entire flight must be an international flight.
When one transfers to Air Panama in Panama City/Albrook, one can also get a big hit on baggage costs. We have our taxi driver, Luis, take our bags to Fletes Chaves (sp?) and they get to Boquete the next day by truck for $5-8 per bag.
Restrictions are determined based on historical weather data and are used world wide. Weights and balance programs are run before all flights, A hot summer day in Denver can cause passengers and freight to get bumped.
The answer is weights and balances of the aircraft. Weather conditions are one of the determining factors of how much weight an aircraft is allowed to carry. Hot humid and still air affects how much weight an aircraft can carry. Restrictions go into affect based on historical weather data. A computer program is run before any aircraft takes off. These programs calculate the weight of every checked bag and carry on bag as well as the weight of each passenger down to the weight of each can of soda on board as well as weather conditions and determines if the aircraft is allowed to take off.
If one airline allows two bags vs another airline allows one bag, the weights and balances for the same type of aircraft can be radically different. Tropical air causes restrictions and passengers and freight can be bumped from a flight at the last moment if the weight and balance programs dictate. I have been bumped from half empty planes in Latin America as well as in the States and Guam as a result of these conditions.
Sorry, I was very stressed earlier when I read that, I didn't realize I could take the 3rd bag. BUT, I spoke to someone there & they said I can't take a 3rd : (
This is nuts!
AND my friend just read it & she's reading it that you can take 5 LOL
Mike, so these are only flights leaving Latin America & what about US airlines?
Raine, thank you soooo much. You are a rare breed to stick up for someone who has been bullied non stop since I got to Panama. This is just one more reason why I'm leaving. YIPPEEEEEEEEE : )
I'm attaching this for the people who actually care about what I'm talking about & want to know for themselves & they aren't people who are trying to prove me wrong.

I guess I'll never find out why, but thank you for all who tried to help.

My pleasure, Michelle. Dan Diego puts you down each time you post, you have been a lady and have let it slide every time. I just got tired of his belittling, he does it not just to you, but anyone who he disagrees with. It's time for him to grow up and act respectful.
OK, so you can take two plus one to go to Vegas. That's three. Guess you'll have to make it work and pack another box. Life is a lot easier here for people that gave up asking why? and just figure out how. Good luck.
You are a despicable and hateful man. Does it make you feel good to put other people down? Why don't you keep your mouth shut if you haven't anything pleasant to say?
YIPPEEEEEEEEE :)
Google Translate confirms this means "I am an idiot".
Hi,
Ok, Copa is the only one who still allows 2 bags. Delta doesn't allow that anymore.
Sorry for the misunderstanding. This isn't about how much bags cost, this is about the Dec./Jan. baggage restriction where you can not bring any more than the 2 bags they allow you.
This isn't good at all for me. I need to bring 3 maybe 4 altogether.
I thought the restriction was over this next week, but according to the site & the phone call I just made (of course I don't believe anything they ever say & they won't let me speak to a manager), the restriction is on until the end of Jan.
I just wanted to know what the restriction is for, is it just copa (I think it's all airlines) & is it only for Latin America & why. That's all. : ) Maybe someone else will know & respond some time tonight.
Thanks
Michelle
