I recently went to Dolega to have the registration for a vehicle i purchased in another providence transferred to Dolega. I have done this numerous times they would transfer my registration up to Dolega for a small fee. When i asked the young man about the transfer he told me that he had a friend of his that would handle the transfer for me and he gave me her telephone number, but he told me to give him $140.00. I called the woman and she told me to meet her in the parking lot of a mercado with a copy of my registration. She asked my wife for a copy of our electric bill and to sign a piece of paper to authorize the transfer. I asked the woman if she was working for the government and she replied that she was independent. I received a call on the telephone a couple of days later telling me telling me to take more money back to the young man at the Dolega office because of problems she was having. I dont know if this is going on in the Boquete office and all around the country or just in Dolega. To this date no placa no registration transfer nada. Be carefull.

Something seems out of whack. What does it say on the receipt for the $140?
Keith, It does seem out of whack. You might know Arcenio that has been handling the registration transfers for several years. I was told on the telephone by the woman to give Arcenio the $140.00 and i did not receive a receipt. I did ask for a receipt from the lady after asking for one in the parking lot. For what thats worth a receipt in Panama. As you know Keith from having lived here as long as i have that things are always changing. This is not an isolated incident because Arcenio told 5 other people in the office (Panamanians) that the charge for the transfer will be a $140.00 . I am sure you will encounter some experience with this in the future. By the way the independent woman that Arcenio gave me the telephone number to call does not speak any english at all. No problem for me as i am fluent in Spanish. But i could see where this would present a problem for some people that are not.
Assuming most of these xfers are from P city. I transferred reg. from David to Boquete for $15.
