Why is it that some expats like to think of Boquete as expat territory and could care less about what goes on in the country?
Why is the expats completely disregard the current worrying state of the nation which include a decline in the national economy and acquisition power of the majority of the population, high levels of corruptions, allegations of censorship and political persecution, very high disapproval rates of the current administration, increase in crimes, increase in cost of living, problems with the school system, education, medicine, crisis in hospitals, etc?
Do expats not think all these things will trickle down into their community and affect their living?

Ok, now I get it. It's about money. I didn't know. I keep pledging to not be provoked, and then someone posts something so outrageous, I can't let it pass. Bad on me.
I realize it's a total waste of time and energy, but sometimes I still believe I can make someone think.
I also forget the apparent lack of intelligence of some of nthese characters.
I was happy to see Walter go as he was beating his head against the wall. God bless him for fighting the good fight.
It won't be long and I'll be gone too.
Why are you hoping so much for Walter's return, Glen? You have nobody to bash and insult now?
Look at Bill's profile, he seems to have been around for some time. So why do you call him Walter?
Bill doesn't even fit Walter's MO, so it is strange. Some of these jokers are constantly looking for someone to insult or provoke.
Gordon,
I think an argument can be made that many foreigners are better informed about what's happening in the U.S. than the ignorant, misinformed, and/or indoctrinated half of the country.
All I want is fair and balanced.
Geez Esther. I find myself in the awkward position of supporting Olga on this subject.
It's been a ridiculous political year for the USA. It now comes down to a choice between a buffoon and a politician who continues to spin retorts to evidence that she is, without any doubt, corrupt. She believes she is above the law, and she has put the lives of patriotic Americans at danger with her reckless disregard of rules and regulations that all other military and civil servants are required to obey.
I would far rather see Donald Trump impeached later than to see a clearly corrupt Hillary Clinton elected now.
I'm not crazy. I'm sickened by our choices to be the next President of the United States of America.
The problems you list are happening in almost any country in the world. Not implying it is fun, but what would you suggest gets done about it? Expats, at least most, cannot vote when living abroad.
Seriously, any of those issues can be used to describe the US, European countries and most Latin American countries. Welcome to the corporate run world!
Part of the increase in the cost of living and indirectly the increase in crime has to do with the fact that we expect more. I see 5 year old kids on the bus that have nicer phones than me. I did not have a cell phone until I was 20. Every other local also has a flat screen TV and pay for cable and internet. Most locals don't just eat rice and beans with now and then a small side of chicken, they are adapting the American food consumption.
To simply say that the cost of living is increasing is a wrong assumption. How much was a 5 pound bag of rice10 years ago and how much is it now? Even if the price went up 300% it still costs nothing.
Another obvious issue is that Panama imports inflation thanks to the strong dollar.
What are we supposed to do about the strong dollar and the fact that people expect a higher standard of living? Please educate me...
