Forgive me if this has been covered. So much to wade through. In regards to showing a ticket out of Panama, does it have to be within 180 days of your border run or is it okay to just have a ticket such as a Christmas return home to states ticket?

I'll try and clear up my statements.
1."Purchased" airfare is the rule. An itinerary has the same information "WITHOUT" the word purchased. American Airlines
2.So far either will work. I had both and presented the Itinerary with out the word "purchased" and had the cancelled, printed ticket with the word "purchased" just in case.
3.Costa Rica Exit Tax is strictly enforced.
4.The Exit tax window is open Monday through Friday. They take cash, debit or credit card. $7 fee lol TAX
5.There is an ATM machine and passport scanning machine adjacent to the tellers room for Saturday and Sunday Exit Tax payment and reciept.
6. It was working last Sunday. Problems can happen. An american couples debit card would not work but another customers did so they exchanged cash and she got the tax for them. It's a gamble on the Saturday and Sunday service with the machines.
7.The Exit window (check out of Costa Rica) WILL NOT TAKE CASH.
8. Exit Tax can be purchased in advance at the border or other places inland. I don't know the exact places away from the border.
Hope this is helpfull.
I meant to say an Itinerary will work. I purchased a ticket and it said purchased on the Itinerary and then cancelled in one hour. Boarding passes can not be obtained online over 24hrs out. I had both. I used the Itinerary and had the reservation as a back up. I was testing this out.
Just came back Sunday. Reservation worked. But, I did buy a ticket and cancel the next hour. Printed the ticket first just in case. The Costa Rica exit tax could be a problem. A teller works the window monday through friday and you can use cash, debit, credit card. Sat and sun it is closed. The machine used for saturday and sunday may or may not work for scanning passport and debit card or credit card. NO cash on saturday and sunday is accepted----they don't trust the border people at the windows!!! No Exit Tax no Re-entry.
Yes, you must show a ticket back to your country of origin (passport origin) within the visa period. They got wise to the use of reservations made on airline websites and now require a TICKET. It can be an e-ticket, but must be ticketed not just reserved. One can make a refundable ticket purchase easily enough.
We just did the border run at Sixaola last week and we used a paid reservation confirmation as proof of our flight. It is my understanding that you cannot print out your e-ticket until 24 hours before your flight.
Given that you're only allowed to stay in Panama 180 days I'm guessing immigration is going to want proof that you're leaving within that time frame.
