Border Run This Week

Spent Wednesday to Saturday in Golfito, Costa Rica which is on the water and features million dollar yachts from many different countries. Very beautiful. Highly recommend the Fish Hook Marina.

I was asked for a hotel receipt and was wondering how many others have recently been asked for the same. I was not asked for my flight info or my proof of cash flow but had them with me just in case. I was finger printed by Panama migration leaving and my companion was finger printed coming back to Panama.

One thing that I noticed...Costa Rica does not require prescriptions at their pharmacies and the costs of the medications are far less expensive than in the US.

  depends what drugs you need, many need prescriptions, probably more in CR than Panama.

Stamping out of Panamá and stamping in to CR. After 72 hours we stamped out of CR and in to Panamá. They only asked for our airline ticket. 9-12th of past January. In April we will apply for the pensionado visa. Ecedula we will have to do that before our passport expires in 2024, as the passport number is on the pensionado visa and will not coincide with your new passport when one wants to exit Panamá.

  If you renew your passport, you just go to Immigration, where they enter the new passport number in the computer and stamp your passport noting that it has been done. You do not have to get a new pensionado card, and the numbers on your passport and your pensionado do not have to be the same--so long as you have gone to Immigration as described in the first sentence. Been there, done that.

    Can you go to Immigration in David to stamp your new passport to update the old pensionado, or do you need to go to Panama City to do that?

      Good Afternoon Amanda. When I got my new Passport last year I went to the Immagiration office in David and they put a "Cambio de Pasaporte" sign and some kind of stamp, hope I helped.

      Robert, acquiring the E Cedula is something entirely different from updating a pensionado card when one gets a new passport. Obtaining the E Cedula still requires a trip to Panama City.

I don't understand why people make the border runs. It is very simple and not expensive to get legal residencia in Panamá. It cost me $600 and took 3 weeks. That's less than a plane ticket to here. The only 2 things needed is $1000 per month and a clean FBI record. If those are not possible, then should you be here? I would guess you would not want the same people in your country of origin doing the same. After all aren't you skirting the laws of immigration here? The cost of the border runs and stress adds up over time. Yes the border runs are legal but why not invest the time and money to become legal if you want to live here?
