Cable Onda - Increase in Download and Upload Speed - Forum

We had Cable and Wireless and were told in our area that 4mgs was the best we could get. Speed test did confirm 3.75 but the service was spotty. It would go in and out all day and that was not acceptable. We have now contracted with Cable Onda and waiting on installation for 9mgs.

  the down is "download" and the up is "upload" so the high figure is your download unless you are uploading a lot. Most people aren't.

My CO speed has jumped too, although the ping could be lower. However, very few things download at more then 1.7mb, and many software upgrades download at way less than 100kbps. YouTube videos in 720p HD sometimes stutter and stop to re-buffer, and I don't think that is CableOnda's fault.

Now if FireFox can just fix the download problems in their latest version, I will be happy, because I like the FireFox add-ons - particularly Download Helper. Amazon and some other graphics-intensive sites are very slow and all of the graphics on some pages won't load at all with FireFox.

For now, I've switched to the Google Chrome browser for Amazon, and it works fine - and Ad-Block works with it.

  Caution. Be very careful with Google Chrome. They have embedded code built in to Chrome where by your microphone can be opened remotely and you conversations heard. I have done some research on that and believe it to be true. I also contacted our VPN service about it and they too confirmed that it is there.
  
  I understand you can "opt out" of that in some fashion but do not know how or where to go in Chrome to do so but please be aware it is there.

Gratitude for this improvement should be directed at our oft-maligned playground supervisor. Fran compiled and submitted a great report to Cableonda and stayed on them about it.
