To take a cab to Boquete from David Airport how safe is it? Heard cabs are converted old school buses? I want to stay near a food market - where to stay - would like best to rent home/apt. probably for Sept - Oct. date. Also is there any hiking and/or birdwatching groups or tour I can meet up with once I'm in Boquete? I'm new here so not sure I'm posted this as I should - thanks.

We stayed in one of the studio type "apartments". Nice bath, king bed, sitting area and small kitchen w/breakfast bar. Two patios.
The finca is located far out of town. They sell at the Tuesday market, which is within walking distance of Isla Verde.
There is a small health food store in Boquete that sells some gluten-free products, and Finca Santa Marta, who sells produce at the Tuesday market, also sells health food items shipped in from the US. You can see their web site to see what they sell.
Finca Santa Marta also sells organically grown vegetables. www.fincasantamarta.biz.
We stayed at Isla Verde on our first trip to Panama many years ago. Our casita had a stove. If memory serves, the breakfast provided had some gluten-free choices like fruit. Based on a lunch there a couple of months ago, I can report that the small restaurant is not gluten free unless you opt for salad. In fact, one of the diners in our group is gluten free and complained to the chef about the choices.

Highly recommend Isla Verde. Good accommodations, good people.
If you type Spanish words, you'll end up being so frustrated you'll turn it off. After trying to type "lo quiero" 4 times and having it keep coming up "Israel", I turned it off. Much less stressful.
