Have to do the border crossing visa thing and can't find hotel close to Paso Canoas, Costa Rica. Only hotel we could find is Hotel Los Olivos. but none of the sites give room prices, etc. Other hotels thru Expedia or Travelosity do not list hotels in this town. Boquete local travel agency also seems not to know hotels on the border. We need to stay three nights to get the return visa -- all to get our US driving licenses valid for another three months. Can any one help please?

Check out of Panama. Check in to Costa Rica. Cross the street and go back toward Panama where you will find the bus station. Take the bus to Ciudad Neily $1.00 or 500 colones. In Ciudad Neily, go to Hotel Wilson. There are two buildings...the first is a large 3 story building. The second, (which I can recommend) a block farther up the road is quite reasonable. A/C, WiFi, nice people. $17.00 / night. Tel. 506 2783-1243. From the hotel, it is a short walk to the Ciudad Neily bus station where you can take day trips and see a bit of Costa Rica... including Golfito. Something to do during your 3 day stay.
Cheers.
That is very kind of you to give us a details directions Which Border crossing dd you go to? We understand that the one furthest away is less congested.
Hotel Las Canarias on the Panamanian side at Paso Canoas. At short walking distance from Panamá customs. Large nice rooms with 2 queen beds. You can park your car at the front of the hotel. Breakfast not included, but next door downstairs, TV and free Wifi.
Thank you but we have to leave Panama for 3 days for the visa so we need accommodation in CR side of border and we have no car.
How did it work out at the border for you Maureen? Were there any special requests from the immigration officers? You can also reply to my discussion which is specificaly for all border runs and experiences. Thanks.
Thank you do much for your concern. We cancelled the trip because it was too costly, but we do need to do a run soon before our three month driving license time limit runs out, by December 21. Looking to see if we can buy a car and do it that way.
If the car is registered in Panama and you are not a resident, you can't drive it into Costa Rica. You would only be able to take it to the border, but not through it.
Thank you.
If you are staying 3 days take advantage of the trip and visit Golfito. It is beautiful and inexpensive around there. Not many hotels online but worth it.
I stayed once at a place called La Puruja, eco hotel so no hot water or TV but very nice if you want to experience nature, monkeys etc. and enjoy eco... I would not do it again LOL too much nature for me and I need internet and TV but was nice. This is on the way to Golfito and there is a place called The Garden it's a Soda (their name for cafeteria/restaurant) their food was good and reasonably priced. Very nice ppl
First you go to the Hotel. Then check out of Panamá. Go to the CR customs and check in.
You can walk back to the hotel, which is in the so called neutral zone. After 3 nights you
pay the exit CR fee and check out. Then check in at the Panamanian customs.
When you are the first day checked into CR you can go to any place in CR and also to the Hotel in Paso Canoas.
