This is good for all of Central and South America. Now maybe most of the smuggling of cubanos will stop and the burden on other countries when cubanos pass throught in large numbers like Chiriqui and Darien experienced last year. It's win/win for all.

I'm always bemused to see people complaining about the "huge" illegal immigrant problem and its impact on their standard of living. Most undocumented immigrants end up doing sh#tty work for low wages that a legal resident would never accept. Once the new glorious leader expels all the "illegals" watch how the price of fruit is going to skyrocket because those "honest" fruit conglomerates will have to hire Americans to pick their fruit for much higher wages!
And 20K additional Cubans in America or 500 Cubans in Panama - big deal! What percentage is that of 320 million American or 4 million Panamanian people?
Migrants and refugees more often than not become a countries most industrious and successful workers. Just check out the 100's of 1000's of Chinese that fled starvation and their oppressive government and started a new life as refugees in Malaysia - they are by far the most successful segment of the Malaysian population today!
That's what prisoners are for.
Twenty centavos per hour and they learn a skill, such a deal.
Teach them how to build a wall, oh Mexicans are excellent at cement work already.
It is going to be a Great wall! Tax the remittances and its paid for by the illegals sending money home.
Who cares about Malaysia? The Chinos here and almost everywhere are hard working and successful.
Screw you walt stick to Canadian statistics. How many Cubans / Syrians are you sponsoring?
How appropriate!
(And although meant to be satirical, it is most likely also true!).
Obama made the announcement in order to please the communist government of Cuba, not because he plans on enforcing the border in his final week in office.
The Cuban people have received nothing from Obama's "deal" with Castro, other than the knowledge that the police state is stronger than ever.
That being said, Cubans should abandon hope and give up on the Central American immigration pipeline. It certainly has been a headache for every country affected.
Obama changed the immigration policy and has notihg to do with pleasing anyone except americans tired of the free stuff handed to them when they hit shore and Panama, Costa Rica, and Ecuador. He also considered all the other countries that the cubanos have been using to make it to the USA. He, Obama, was ask during the cubano invasion here last november to do something about the immigration. Ecuador,Costa Rica and the USA were ask to change immigration polices-----BY THE PANAMANIAN GOVERNMENT and they aren't communist. I guess Ecuador enforced the new visa rule to please communist cuba also. No logic to your assumption on Obama's action.
You can guess about Ecuador to your heart's content, but to assert that Obama did this to please Americans is hilarious. He still has the border wide open to anyone from Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras. Plus, he simply can't get enough refugees from the Middle East spread throughout the US. Are Americans the most unhappy about Cuban refugees?
Give me a break.
The USA does not have an open border----what is your source of information your brain? Coyotes sneek people across. Undocumented people to not cross the border at the check points. You are totally wrong. Ecuador changed their Visa Policy on Cubanos-----facts not guess work or assumption or opinon. Costa Rica and the US has done the same. What don't you understand about this? Your MYTH (fake news) about middle east immigration is just that----a Myth. It hasn't happened under his watch and it surely won't happen under the new thug president.
This is about the only thing Obama has done in 8 yrs I agree with
However, this puts a heavier burden in Central/South American countries and Mexico because there are still over 20K Cubans between Ecuador and Mexico making their way to the US who are now in limbo and do not want to return to Cuba. There are over 500 Cubans in Panama still.
This law was unexpected and immediate, so I hope there is no other mass Cuban migrant situation at the borders between Colombia and CR now. Glad it puts Coyotes out of business.
