On the other hand, I've known a number of people who waited until 65 to retire, then kicked the bucket.
I retired eight years ago at age 51. Best decision I ever made.
Keeping active and having either family or 'second family' with volunteering and feeling involved are positive social activities that the study suggests should be in place prior to retirement.
Those without such an 'exit plan' may suffer with increased or intolerable stress levels that may lead to dementia and/or premature death.
A study among elders over age 90 in Greece showed three common characteristics:
Faith, hope and charity.
Good news ,esp. as I`m still working after 70...and will for one or two more yrs. At least its a good excuse!
