It's not any fun to do things with 40 MPH winds outside, so it's a good day to rant about something that isn't talked about much in this forum ---> crappy seconds that all manufacturers dump into Panama.
What set me off today was the Ekco vegetable peeler I bought at Romero yesterday because my 10 year old Ekco was seeming a little dull. But, the new one is a piece of crap and doesn't work even half as good as my antique one. Ekco clearly dumped their seconds into Panama.
This isn't the first encounter with this. I bought the Poulan lawn mower 6 months ago at Price Smart with the larger engine and front-wheel drive. Based on my prior experience in getting things like air filters and mower blades, I went on-line shortly thereafter to order a stock of oft needed parts for the mower. That's when I found out that this model had already been discontinued by Poulan. Obviously, they were just dumping their inventory into Panama through Price Smart.
That's not all folks. When we moved here we brought a new LG refrigerator with us. It works great and when we decided to put a second refrigerator into the garage, we bought another LG from a store in Terronal Plaza. It's a piece of crap with finishing standards that don't come close to what we bought in the States. Another manufacturer delivering products into Panama that aren't saleable elsewhere.
Do Panamanians know their are getting screwed? OK, the rant is finished.

Check anywhere you shop, not just Wallyworld as you call it. Everything seems to be made in China or some third world country.

That is the attitude. You should know my wife. She is a good buyer and very strict. She will fight if she has to for her rights and my wallet.
The more people fight for their rights the better. Merchants now are aware that they couldn't do what they used to do year ago with the people.
Roger,
You always have sane arguments. But, I am going to stick with the original premise of this post. Manufacturers think they can dump second rate products into the market here. It's not the fault of the Panamanian retailer. It's the fault of manufacturers and importers who think Panama is an easy market to do unethical business in.
No one should have to 'fight for their rights' to get good value for their money. And, it's especially true here because hard goods cost more than they do in North America. There is no rationalization that can be made for paying more for a product that is of lower standards than what gets shipped to North America.
Panamanians are getting screwed.
By nature those cocks are not as agressive.
Good boy.
