Evangelical Christian Opportunities

My wife and I have been involved in Christian outreach and missions work in various Latin American countries over the years and would like to know that the opportunity will continue should we retire and relocate to Panama.  We have friends who are also of like mind and will be relocating in a few years, also.  In addition to being experienced with Latin American's we lived in Japan and Hawaii for several years while I was on active duty.  Our journey into retirement in Panama has just begun and we are looking for someone, a Christian evangelical expat who might consider mentoring us through the process and experience.

  • Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.

    • Excellent, Judy. It is always a puzzlement to me how good Christian people who are decent, contributing members of communities (and I know many), and who profess ardently to serve a God of Love, become so judgmental of others of different faiths--to the point of persecution, wars, forcible conversions, unwanted proselytizing. Serious illogical blind spot. Can't see Jesus approving any of it, really.

Crosby, Stills and Nash sang it:

Open up the gates of the church and let me out of here
Too many people have lied in the name of Christ
For anyone to heed the call
So many people have died in the name of Christ
That I can't believe it all

  • Lost? Spare this world your hubris.

  • Along with many others, I will continue missing the gardens at Amigos, however I'm glad that the Sunday morning group has found a permanent home. By the same token, I would have been equally happy for Amigos de Animales if that organization had taken it over.
  • Hi Gordon my husband and I would be happy to answer any questions you might have. We have been missionaries for a while now. Please feel free to contact us.

  • To believe is a comfort. Thinking is an effort.
  • Men can find God only in himself. If he tries to find Him through outside influences it cannot be pure.
  • At the risk of offending those among you, who share Some of the more anti-Christian sentiments, there are those of us who believe that Jesus is The Christ, the Son of The living, one and only true God and we have accepted Him as our Lord and Savior.

We're not anywhere near perfect, nor do we profess to be...far from it! If we were, there would be no need for a Savior. God knows, we all need a savior, whether we recognize that fact or not.

As believers and followers, we also believe that the Holy Bible, in its original manuscripts, is the Holy inspired word of God. That same Bible contains a passage, commonly referred to as "the great commission", which reads as follows:

    Matthew 28:16-20
    New International Version (NIV)
    The Great Commission

16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Those who choose to be obedient, do so out of the abundance of their love for God and their fellow man. Salvation is "offered" by God as a free gift, to be accepted or rejected.

If you chose to refuse that gift, that is YOUR choice, but to condemn those who simply want be obedient in sharing the path to receive that gift, seems to be a bit unfair, if not "unenlightened".

I must admit that We are disappointed to hear of so many, who profess to be so "culturally inclusive" exhibit such a contradictory attitude toward others.

After all, if you possessed that which you truly believed to be the most wonderful gift in the universe, would you not love others enough to want to share it?

That, friends, is what loving obedience to the "Great Commission" is all about.

Would you really condemn them for that? Really?
