The research study “Expats: Expectations and Reality” is ready for free download. Members of Boquete.Ning will find the study to be especially interesting because so many of you participated in the survey we used to create it.
The study reports expats’ responses to everything from why expats moved overseas, to did they achieve what they were looking for, to fears (both real and unrealized), happiness, stress, lifestyle, advice, comments, and everything in between, including stories and a good amount of humor.
- Expats will find it fun reading and also to see if you agree or disagree. (If you took the survey, you may even find your own comments or those of your friends.)
- People considering moving overseas will find it a "must read." The study reveals the good and the bad about moving overseas, and the real expat experience as told by real expats. (Spoiler alert: there are lots of things you probably didn't know and that will surprise you.)
We want everyone to benefit from the study, so if you represent a business or a non-profit, you are free to use all or part of the study in your presentations or to give out to anyone you'd like, subject to the Rights to Distribute on page 13.
If you find the study useful, please share it! Anyone can download the study free of charge at:

Don't you hate it when some knucklehead gets his hyperbolic nonsense all bass-ackwards?
Your correspondent was mixed-up by a more general Malayze. What a big looser!
{Please see archives for even more egregious examples! But show some empathy. Knuckleheadedness is a chronic condition for which there is no known cure.}

The relatively recent political polarization was the thing that made me the craziest.
Now I live a simple nearly stress free life and I am happier than I have ever been.
Having chimed in with my experience and opinion, I would like to express my gratitude for Ning. What an awesome resource!!
Having said that it seems to me there are a few forum responders that maybe should get a hobby. Seem to have way too much time on their hands expressing their precious opinions, or worse, just to get a rise out of someone. You know who you are.
Hey, everyone needs to go to their favorite web page. Every article that gets published on the web whether it be news, op-ed, or food recipe, has a financial reward. It's the new capitalism. Even Zeltzer, despite his continual anti-capitalist rants, makes money from this business. God bless Chuck if he can make a few bucks from what was obviously a lot of hard work.
For me, it doesn't matter if the methodology or conclusions may be flawed. He provoked a few thoughts for anyone who has or is considering expatriation.
The true winners of the gold rush were those who sold pick axes and shovels to the unsuspecting dupes.
The Maylasian multi-task: walk, chew gum, spit, and get caned, all simultaneously.
