I bought a vehicle in January 2016, It was in Boquete but registered in Panama. The seller took care of the paperwork for the sale, but this year I needed to renew the placa and change the registration to Dolega.
A young man at the municipio, Arcinio Miranda, took care of all the paperwork in the spot. The total cost for everything, including the new placa, was $163. But that included a mandatory multa in Panama City of $50 for late renewal. If I had been smart enought to get there on time, the cost would have been $113.
Per conversation with them at the Boquete office, they provide "tramite" services for PC at about $125. I don't need to know now about this now, but I guess it would be helpful for those who bought/registered a vehicle in Panama City. The guy here speaks some english.

Interesting! Late renewals in Boquete are only $8.
