Un centenar de armas blancas fueron entregadas ayer en la cárcel pública de David, por parte de reclusos de diferentes pandillas, como un paso voluntario para que cese el problema entre bandas en los centros penales.
Para el privado de libertad Omar Chanis Machuca, esta es una oportunidad para enviar un mensaje al Gobierno y a la comunidad entera de que ellos están en busca de un bienestar que los lleve a cambiar sus vidas y prepararse para aportar a la sociedad.
Durante el acto fueron entregados, cuchillos, platinas, hierros, lanzas fabricadas de barrotes, cuchillas automáticas, entre otros.
En el acto, la iglesia evangélica jugó un papel muy importante al ser intermediaria, así como personal de la Defensoría del Pueblo. También estuvo presente la Policía Nacional y un representante de la Gobernación de la provincia.
Por su parte, Francisco Mendizábal, representante de la Defensoría del Pueblo en Chiriquí, explicó que luego de varias semanas de un turbulento escenario se dio este cambio de actitud.
