I did some research and found an article from 2011 from the Panama Guide. I put a link to it in my post. I also included links from friends blogs on their recent trips.
How long must you stay out of Panama to reset your visa??

I wonder if Don W. lays awake at night, missing my own august yet humble commentary contributions to his laser-focused site?
I'm sure he does. I know the rest of us do.
The 2011 info was accurate in 2011, not now. The law has never changed, the enforcement has.
How is this information not accurate Lee? I don't know and personally don't care, but according to Don Winner's information/article there is no time requirement to remain out of Panama -- is there now? Where is this found? When did it change? I know from his article the accepted belief was 72 hours, but according to him that isn't actually written anywhere and people departing Panama should be able to turn around and return directly back.
Glad I don't have to deal with this problem. .
People are finding new requirements each trip to the border. Sometimes they are told they do need to stay in CR, sometimes they need a return airplane ticket to point of origin, sometimes they need $500 cash. The law never changed but the interpretation by immigration appears to be subject of the whim of the immigration officer. There is no longer consistency.
This has been discussed on this site and on a yahoo group Panama laws for expats extensively.
