Familiarise yourself with handcuffs, zip ties, ropes. This is for people who are going in to high risk areas, but never hurts to learn these things. Learn how to get out of all. There are plenty of videos on Youtube these days. SERE stuff. In the event you are abducted and bound, you will need to know how to get free. There is no situation where you are rendered helpless, unless you so choose to be. Handcuffs can be picked. Locking ones can be jammed and broken. Chains can be broken. Learn how. zip ties, no matter how tough they are, given the right amount of targeted force, will break, under extreme and violent pressure. Always add skills to your toolbox. With handcuffs, exception of course if used by law officers. We respect the law.

Also, I know you are super busy and have offered before, but would you think about giving a few self defense courses for women. After the last few weeks, I think you will be surprised at the response you will get. I also hope you keep it up with your tips.
Hard to get permit here, so buy a flare fun and as you said have a plan, for you and your family and surprise really scares some would be attackers. Most men here would never think a woman would crush his trachea, hurt him badly in the family jewels, push your hand up his nose to break it and stop him.... They think we are all too scared and maybe squeamish to really hurt someone, but if they are in my house they are fair game....
Both of you as former security backgrounds are good people to know and ask questions and I hope the community pays attention to this warning. I certainly will.....
Hi Jess...
And what about mine fields in the drive...?
Please, don't hit me...was only kidding,.. ;)
Still think that the most effective way is to put your property under video control...the ones that record everything 24H on an internet site, to put the system on a battery that will keep recording for at least 30 min after your luz has been cut...And most important, to make sure your neighborhood knows it... You can also let a rumour go that your dogs are men killers - i kept them inside - and that you own guns (although i still think that owning a gun involves additional threats)... Most of the time, potential thieves do some DD before acting...
Good reputation among your local neighbors helps a lot.
100% security does not exist!
I did an additional thing for items that, if stolen, could be easier to find if a photo was given to the authorities. I took quality photos against a neutral background and wrote the Ser.# on a sheet of paper with a felt pen, placing the Ser.# of the item in the photo view.
Upload these to the the free "Cloud Drive" of your choice and you can give the authorities something better to go on. Also, I have found that it helps cut through the stuff that insurers try to put on you.
good stuff, Jess!
Excellent article.
Thank you
Great information. Thanks!
Well done, girl. Hey miss seeing you!
