I believe you’re right, Bob. So the saying goes-Black to yella, kill a fella but, others say the bite will only be bad if you step on one with bare feet. Found him burrowing in some new loose dirt.

The poem doesn't work here. Corals come in a variety of stripes, and they will all kill you. However, they are not aggressive and have small mouths, so people are usually bitten on the webbing between the fingers when gardening. It is said that corals prefer to run away than bite. False corals, which are not venomous, look very similar. I can't tell the difference.

Looks like a Coral snake to me Jim. We also live in Potrerillos and have had 2 around our house.
