We are wanting to locate to an area in or around Boquete (visiting in January on an extended exploration visit), that has "high speed" internet service, as both my wife and I work off the internet, she doing marketing and writing, and my doing .NET software development.
Obviously "high speed" is a relative term. We are currently in Asheville, NC with AT&T DSL service that is 6M download and 512K upload, and rate only a D as compared to the rest of the US, and a C as compared to the rest of the world. Yet 6M is quite sufficient for our purposes.
I have seen claims for high speed internet, and read there is up to 5M service in Boquete. Is this actually available in practice? I have written two ISP contacts regarding internet there and both emails bounced.
Can folks with supposedly "high speed" service please visit http://speedtest.net and report what their actual upload/download speeds are? I would be very appreciative of more information as to where the fastest connections can be had, how fast they actually are, reliability, and what they roughly cost.
Wireless connections are generally not fast enough. Hard wired land lines are normally much faster.

Got the same plan at the same cost and with similar speed results. Until today nothing to complain. The service have been fair and continuous.
Hopefully no one cares about online gaming in Boquete. Truly a US national waste of pastime and a travesty...IL has their own axe to grind and I for one think they misrepresent everything solely for the purpose of trying to get your money as do so many nowadays...
Ping is kinda like a sonar ping, which is what it is named after I would guess. It measures the time to send a small message round trip to another computer, and is normally 20-200 ms hopefully. Good is under 100 ms. Your speeds sound pretty good over all and CableOnda is meeting their 4M contract with you. Thanks.
BTW, when I say "wireless" I meant from the ISP itself, as wireless in your abode is typically going to be faster than the ISP connection even if that is cable or DSL from the ISP, so I mean just from the ISP to your router. Wireless inside your home is not really a factor. Thanks.
Thanks for all the great info folks. Good for you all to compare to each other too, so the customers and providers have some benchmarks to look at which will help improve service over time.
Watched a recent video where someone pointed out the "Cable and Wireless" building, who also promises 5M service. Does anyone have C&W as an ISP, and how do they compare to Cable Onda?

Internet Activo gives excellent service. They answer emails and rarely have down times. You pay by how much speed you want (max of 1 meg). This is the company that bought out Barranco. If you look in the top left corner of the edit window, you will see an underlined "LINK" button, which after highlighting some text that you want to use as a "hot link", you click the "LINK" button and then fill in the URL that you want associated with your hot link. I normally make the text the same as the URL so folks know what they are clicking on. As a double check though, if you hover over the hotlink in sites or email, most browsers will show you the associated URL down in the status bar so you can see where you are about to head to. Btw, to make a mail link, you preface with "mailto:". Dave
