I just reread the "Salt" discussions on this forum and would like to supplement my diet with iodine and selenium as a preventative measure. I am post menopausal and am feeling sluggish recently and felt these supplements may help. Can they be bought in Boquete otc?

I agree Ellen, Susan, and Judy.
Marie and Linda, I'm not opposed to natural treatments, but I think self-diagnosis is risky to dangerous. Get tested, and then decide how to proceed.
Hashimoto's is an autoimmune disease with a genetic link. It isn't caused by not eating enough iodine. Some research has shown that too much iodine can even trigger thyroid disease.http://www.webmd.com/women/hashimotos-thyroiditis-symptoms-causes-t...
Taking too much of any trace element can cause problems. It's better to get your thyroid function tested before ingesting supplements that might do more harm than good.
Finally some good advice. Thanks for the sanity check Ellen.
I'm wondering about all this fuss on ning about iodine. How many cases of goiter has anybody ever seen in their life? I suspect most of us are getting enough, especially if we have eaten iodized salt all of our lives.
You might also want to think about a daily dose of coconut oil. I sometimes mix it with oil of oregano and hold it under my tongue for awhile before swallowing it. It has great anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral properties. Do some investigating. Here's a link to start with: http://www.homeremediesweb.com/oil_of_oregano_health_benefits.php By the way, VitaCost carries this too.
I use eShop, Marie. Sorry to hear about your infections. Hope everything gets better for you soon.
Marie, here is al ink to the iodine I took before taking nascent iodine: http://www.vitacost.com/life-flo-health-care-liquid-iodine-plus and here is a good selenium supplement: http://www.vitacost.com/new-chapter-selenium-food-complex-90-tablets-3. They're both from VitaCost and they ship very quickly. They also have Lugol's iodine and several others, plus quite a few selenium supplements. Do you take magnesium, vitamin B-12, and vitamin D supplements? A lot of people are lacking in these nutrients, too, and don't even realize it.
