Boquete Panama

Cool, Green and the best Coffee in the world

I would love to see various people do restaurant and hotel reviews on NoticasChiriqui.com.

There is a restaurant review criteria I did for myself on Boqueteguide and I would recommend anyone doing reviews consider it.

In the past I wrote restaurant reviews in Boquete Guide based upon one visit, I was wrong to do so and I stopped. Even the best restaurant has bad days and occasional bad service. I now only right a review after three or more visits. I also have learned that if I have nothing good to say, to say nothing at all. I have my opinions and they are mine if they are positive I share them, negative and I am mute.

Lee...when we are back in Boquete, we are happy to do this.....we have some recent posts but do not have enough of this info to write about it - guess we will just need to go back to those places ......what we do for journalism  :-)

Having just purchased the Boquete coupon booklet, I will be happy to add comments as I first explore the places that support the recycling center in town.

Lee,

While I applaud your new online newspaper, I have a comment when it comes to "reviews", whether it be restaurants or hotels. The very nature of a review is not news but opinion.  It is that opinion, when it is presented as fact, that leads to problems.  Recently you posted the following comment regarding restaurant reviews:

I believe that to be a wise and educated statement.  Aren't you are now asking someone else to put their foot in the bear trap, a lesson you learned was better to be mute??   I would respectfully suggest that opinions, such as reviews of any type of businesses, belong in the forum rather than the news.   I believe the news should be reserved for announcements of items that are news worthy.  Personally, since reviews are opinion based, a poll is often a better method of giving a fair and wide range of experiences.  I would point to TripAdviser.com as a shining example.  People rate the business and then give a short experience.  This gives the reader a wide variety of input rather than just a single reviewer.   It also gives the business a chance to correct flaws or experiences that might occur to one party but not another.

You have two very separate and distinct sites.  My wish would be, keep the NoticasChiriqui.com as purely news and keep the opinion items in the forum.  I believe by doing so, you will do both the reader and the businesses a great service.

Thank you for all the positive. I am thinking of NoticiasChiriqui as a local CNN I report, a people's newspaper. Newspapers have opinions as well as news. I do understand the dangers of opinions which is why I do currently reserve the right to edit and omit posts. I would hope any reviewer of anything would also do as I suggested, visit multiple times before writing. THe need for reviews is there, Trip advisor has a good model, people here can write a review and others can add their comments and experiences too.

I'd love to participate in this as we eat out very often.  However, my concerns in a commmunity this small are 1) repercussions of using one's name on a review if it's not a glowing report.  2) If the establishment knows you're there to do a review, it's possible you'll receive better service and food than the norm.  3) If they don't know you're there to do a review, gaining access to the kitchen seems unlikely.

May I chime in? Generally speaking, I agree with the post by Twin Wolf pertaining to "Noticias" -- the new site seems ideally suited to exactly what the name implies, and I believe it will be an exciting resource for crisp reporting about what is to be realized "on the ground" in Chiriqui.

Everyone knows that I've never been bashful when it comes to flapping my gums, but as a bereft and reluctant outsider, I believe that my own whimsical observations are best saved for *ning, where the community of posters and participants knows to accept or reject my peculiar blatherings with a grain of salt ...

From time-to-time, occurances back up here in the "real world" may be germane to the expat community; if it so seems, perhaps I'll be able to add a positive contribution over on the "new kid".

In the mean time, not to be overly redundent in the department of redundency department, always remember as you gaze up, agape, into the splendiferousness of each new day, beware of the low-flying aricaris ....

Seriously,
