My refrigerator makes a disturbing noise. It comes from the freezer - in the upper part. In there is a small propeller . If the propeller rotates he gets in contact with surrounding ice and that makes the noise. I can shut the fridge off so the ice melts. But the noise comes right back after the fridge is activated again.I would very much appreciate a recommendation for a handy man/woman who could look at it.

Hi Marion. We had the same problem a couple of years ago. The little shaft that holds the fan is moving due to the worn out bearings. The small whole unit has to be replaced. Small job.

You mean I have to replace the small propeller?

No not the propellor. The whole small unit, consisting of the tiny electrical motor, shaft with the propellor.
It is one small unit. Just tell the technician by phone what brand and model of fridge you have.

ok,
why don't you ask someone in your own community in stead of running around the bush.
Often humidity will build up in the freezer compartment for a lot of reasons. This builds up an accumulation of ice in areas where you do not see it; like around the fan motor. It could be ice is touching the fan blades. Solution might be as simple as a good defrost for a few hours to allow the ice to melt or if you are really ambitious unscrew some panels and remove chunks of ice as they thaw. Of course it could also be a worn out fan. I have had to defrost mine a couple of times in the last year because of fan noise, as my wife loves to put things with lots of water in them in the freezer to cool off.

This is exactly the problem. The fan is touching the ice. I think I am ambitious. I screwed off two panels. Now I will do like you say- remove the chunks of ice. Thank you so much for the goods advice!
Happy holidays!

A word of caution - do not use anything sharp in removing the ice. There are refrigeration coils there that if punctured can result in needing a new refrigerator. Remove all of the freezer contents and put in a pan of hot water and close the door. The ice will soften if you repeat this step a time or two. The refrigerator should be turned off, of course. The ice is a symptom of the defrost cycle not working due to any number of mechanical causes. My advice is to call Emigdio to find a long-term solution. Good luck.
After the panel to the fans is taken off, in order to speed up the process, use a woman's hair dryer if you have one or the exhaust from a vacuum cleaner to thaw the ice. I've that that same problem recently happen to me>
