The 500,000 was to include the metro area, the surrounding area of David and Chiriqui. I have heard this quoted many times, but that does not make it correct. So sorry if I got it wrong, but come out and see the property and have a cup of good Panama coffee with us, it is beautiful.
It would seem that the author of this post intended to indicate that somewhat exaggerated statistics would engender 500,000 views --- and comments ......!
Google is your friend!!!! David is the second biggest city in Panama. From Wikipedia:
David is a city located in the west of Panama. It is the capital of the province of Chiriquí and has an estimated population of 82,907 inhabitants as confirmed in 2010.[1] It is a relatively affluent city with most families and houses having basic living requirements, such as concrete houses, clean water and energy. The Pan-American Highway is a popular route to David.
The Zullas' ad cites a population of 500,000 in David. Another website, www.panamaparadise.com, cites a population of 150,000, which sounds the most reasonable to me. (That site says the total population of the province of Chiriqui is 350,000.) Other sites report equally divergent numbers. So Google is not altogether friendly on this point.

I am not motivated to hack my way through the Spanish, but the Wikipedia article responsibly cites *something* which seems to be the Panama government 2010 census.
I am neither motivated to consult a web site called "Panamaparadise"

The best source of information about demographics and economics of Panama is the INEC that is the National Institute of Statistics and Census.
The link below is the estimated population of Panama by province and districts and by sex.
