I was hoping someone had done this recently since I believe some of the requirements have changed. I have been told you need notarized copies of you US and Panama IDs and a certificate of residency from the Corregidor in your area.
I want to make sure I have all necessary paperwork before I begin my trek.
We did it recently. It required the apostilled marriage certificate. It had to be sent to the U.S. and returned. In our case it also required a certified copy of my wife's birth certificate because her name had changed from her maiden name to my last name when we married, as is common for many of our generation. Total costs ran us close to $1,000 and a trip to Panama City.
This is from Lee Zeltzer's blog who registered his marriage:
To register your non Panamanian marriage you need a certified copy of your marriage license which has been apostilled, a copy of the same document translated by a licensed translator who has stamped and signed each page and a letter to the director, Magister Zoraida Sitton, in Spanish asking for the registration. There is no cost for the registration. Once you have registered your marriage in Panama you can only file for a divorce in Panama if you want Panama to honor the divorce.
