I found this on line which will be helpful for those anticipating a move to Panama and more specifically Chiriqui. "Your Guide in Chiriqui".This guide has been a "Best Seller" however I found it on a useful website (Panamalivinginvestment.com) that I visit from time to time. Check it out on line: Lots of hints and tips.
You need to be a member of Boquete Ning to add comments!
Staying on topic and keeping away from personal attacks, I agree there should be guides if you want to call them that, aimed to help out would be expats with good tips and advice, what I am against, is making a business out of it.
Most of these magazines, International Livings, etc, are 100% for profit with not so hidden underlying motives, they sell you trips, they push property, they are in it to profit from your search.
Ning and other websites offer valuable information 100% free for those interested. If you want to sell something, be Ok with just the profits of the sale and not use a "guide" as your hook for those would be expats. Perhaps if you provide true FREE advice you would get more business..
just my 2 cents

Olga so you DO agree free or low cost healthcare is available at public hospitals to every one here..
No one will be turned away.YOUR words.
But because that is featured in the guide book and the site it is not TRUE FREE advice?
There is also a helpline with a list of english speaking doctors at the public hospitals.
So who is not being truthful here.Or maybe you should read the book.

What is not right is to charge for these books and services.
Give the free advice no problem. You get the healthcare at low cost, in order for it to be valuable info, does not have to be sold, it could be given away like on ning or other sites that give this information FREE of charge and with no ulterior motives

No need for SHOUTING
Their business is to sell you into something, to sell you the book, a tour etc.
Whomever wants to really help, does it without getting paid.
You are wrong on my salary terms, and you can defend the site all you want
Agree with no shouting but not about what makes you comfortable if trying to make decision about moving here!
If you have never been here or maybe just a couple of times, IMHO, buy books from those who have lived here! I think I bought everyone that was available back in 2006-2008 and yes a couple come to mind that were a waste Of time. Big Deal!
If you are about to make a life changing decision, then the more resources the better! So if a few of the books I bought weren't helping, so what?
PS I may have a few books to sell :)

I have been reading ning since Lee started it.
I have NEVER seen a post informing people free or low cost healthcare available to everyone on ning until I posted it today.CENTRO DE SALUDE
on ning because as Lee told me he would lose adds for health insurance.
So who is being honest?

We have discussed this topic in the past, we have discussed the pros and cons of these services for expats and we have also discussed the fact that while they are available to us as well, as guests in their country, we are taking up an appointment that is destined for low income Panamanians, while many of us expats can afford to go to private doctors and are not low income.
We can benefit from it, however, it is not right to abuse of the benefit afforded to Nationals, as even on a retiree budget, we make on average more than the average Panamanian

Your two cents look exactly like mine for a change, Olga...:-)
I notice that many people here use the phrase "personal attacks" when someone dares to rain on their parade...
To me, it just proves that I was right with my assessment in the first place...
Being helpful without any ulterior motive is a very noble thing, and should be practiced more often by all of us.
But for all the "free offerings of help" on public forums, there is the old phrase that applies just as much as when you buy land in Florida (or Boquete or anywhere else): CAVEAT EMPTOR!
