Planning a family trip to Boquete to look for realestate. Will be there in Jan. or Feb. I am looking for a book that can help answer all the questions. I have so many that I fear they will be bothersome in a forum site. Can't wait to meet some or all of you! See you soon! K.

Coming from Colroado. How long have you been in Panama?
My husband I moved here two years ago from Upstate, NY. We found selling everything we owned in the states (except for personal items and clothes) and moved here with 14 suitcases, was the way to go!! Once we got here we rented for over a year to decide where we wanted to live. We traveled trhoughout Panama and decided on Alto Boquete. We found a home, turn-key (everything included ) being sold by an American and bought that home after searching and looking at many homes. We were going to build, but gave ourselves a good year and realized we didn't want the hassle of building..and it is a hassle here! If you have anymore questions, please feel free to ask us! And PLEASE...give yourself a year of living in Panama to see if this is what you want. We have had several friends jump into building homes, buying property and buying homes, only to find that Panama is NOT for them and returned to the states! Buena suerte!!
We moved to Panama a few months ago. I have several books that I am willing to loan you if you can wait until you get here. One thing you might want to buy is the National Geographic laminated map of Panama. This was and remains a great map for finding places in Panama. I ordered mine from Amazon.com.

Thank you for your reply. How was your move? Any pearls of wisdom to share? I seem to have a plethera of questions?

We had a good move. The one thing I found was that we could have done differently was to use different people to move our things. We did a lot of the work ourselves and a lot of the arranging and paid too much. I think the cheapest way to move with the least hassle I have heard is to use PakYa. You can email them and they will get you a quote.
My husband has an anuersym in his aorta near his heart. So, we were concerned about a good cardiologist. Since he is in England working right now, he has not visited one here. However, I did read (I think it was on chiriquichatter.com) about a new heart healthcare clinic that opened in David right across from the Chiriqui Hospital. You can probably look in the recent postings and get some information. We will definately to to see Dr. Alexander Adames at the Sedica, S.A. clinic. Check out their website at www.cardiologiapanama.com. They are supposed to be able to do everything there.
If you have lived in other foreign countries, as we have, this should be an easy transition for you. The one thing I have found is that specialty stuff (like the oxygen concentrator) might be hard to find and much more expensive than in the States.
Thanks for the encouragement Judy. I am new to the blog thing and I am still not sure of the protocols etc. My mom (78) and I are thinking of moving to Boquete. I am still in the info seeking stage. We have lived in a couple of foreign countries including Africa, so I know that there will be some culture shock. I have a couple of big concerns. My mom needs oxygen at night and I don't know if we will be able to find an oxygen concentrator there or if we should buy one and bring it. On the other hand since we will be coming down in elevation, (we live at 6500ft) she may not need it at all. Also I need to know if there is a cardiologist in David? Those are the initial biggies. Thanks again!
