I think our fridge needs lengthy (12-24 hr) defrosting for a frozen water line.
Does anyone know where dry ice can be found in Boquete (if at all)?
Failing that, anyone have some freezer space (about two medium coolers full) in or near VE that I could use for 24 hours?
Sadly, I am an iceaholico...don't do well without an icemaker!
Any ideas appreciated. Going tepid is not an option for long ;>

Precisely! Thanks for interpretation, Gene.
Turn off frig and freezer, take out all the stuff from the bottom area of the frig, look for a large panel on the back, remove it, blow everything with a hair dryer.
So, thanks, great idea. Took everything out. Even got the panel off and heated the bottom and what I could see of the ice lines for about 30 minutes. Did not see anything frozen anywhere, left it turned off and at room temp for about 5 hours. Put everything back at factory set temp and had ice for about 3 cycles, but now no water seems to be coming in again.
Oh, should mention that we have had an intermittent "clicking" sound coming from the icemaker for a couple of months. Usually happens when a cube won't come out of the tray. Now no ice, no click, no clue...
just cravings!
Sounds like the problem is probably with the actual icemaker. They usually have a small motor, gears, cams & valves which regulate when the tray is low on ice and when it should turn on the water to refill the tray.
Thanks for this explanation and graphic.
Hmm, had a so called "master repairman" out yesterday who wasn't at all concerned about the water supply (I can get water out of the door dispenser, but none seems to be going into the icemaker). He took a panel off the inside of the bottom of the freezer, where there was a bit of ice on something that looked like a radiator, used a meter between two wires that showed no flow of, presumably, electricity (he speaks only Spanish, but that's what the meter looked like) and replaced some kind of connector which he just happened to have in his truck.
He wanted me to keep the temp low for awhile (couldn't understand exactly how long) and I am inching it back up to factory setting.
No Ice Yet :( TG I have some trays!
Should I try putting some water in the cube mold to see what happens? Can't think how that could hurt.
Update: placing water in ice trays resulted in ice. However, absent a miniature fireperson who can live in there and put it in, I don't think I have a solution.
Still able to get water from the dispenser.
Analogizing to urology, I would say still a blockage somewhere between where the water dispensing line branches off of the ice making line. Probably ice, given that I have corrected the problem temporarily now three times by defrosting/blowdrying.
Back to square one. More precisely: cube zero.
Thanks, Glen,
We have a single panel covering the entire back.
It LOOKS as if at least 95% of the water line is out of the panel. Hubby is loathe to remove the whole thing...
So 4+ hours with everything turned off and exposed to outdoor temp, hairdryer and tea kettle to the inside until the ice making section was quite hot, then hairdryer to the hole for 10-15 mins... is there anything else behind the panel that really should be "dried" directly?
Ice addiction is making a slave of me!
Excellent idea! Maybe it will take less than 24 hours. I let it defrost, open, for about 3 hours and it made a few cubes but then stopped again.....:<
Why not eat up some food and combine the 2 freezers into 1 and defrost 1 at a time. Planning might work.
