HIt up Paso Canoas yesterday after 5 months and 20 days in Panama as a tourist. No problem leaving despite the proposed revisions to tourist visa permissions. Staying at La Morenita, which is a few kilometers down the road. Clean, quiet, friendly, prices start at $35 a night as of this writing.
Pro tips: La Morenita is on the Panamanian side, technically, so get a Panama cab to take you there. 1/4 of the price and you have a better chance of finding a cabdriver that knows where it is.
Will update with reentry today if there is interest.

Just made the run March 12&13 and one phone call to Rick at La Moernita-727-7380 or 6949-4952 made the whole thing a breeze! He met us at the border walked us right thru the leave Panama and enter CR process, then drove out to the hotel.Five minutes and worlds away from PC.
Rick and his wife built the place and Rick even made the furniture.Very nice-A/C,private baths, lotsa water pressure in the shower, cool balcony.
And Rick can cook! Mixes a mean Mojito, too.Worth the trip for the fish dinner and great breakfast.
Has the computer, printer and expertise on premises to print air reservation- didn't even have to use a cc number-no $ out of pocket. Then back to the border and Rick walked us thru the re-entry process- smooth as silk.
Couldn't recommend him more highly! Makes it fun and easy!! Just call Rick: 727-7382 or 6759-4189 or 727-7380 or 6649-4952 and he'll take you thru it from there..
Did they tell you that you had to stay out overnight? The last I heard they were telling people 6 hours.
Yes, I'd be interested in your re-entry situation.
