Thank you for all your posts!
I do have a question about the crate size and cargo/baggage door.
We have a larger dog and planned on building a custom wood crate.
48"L x 32"Wx 35"H
Will this crate work at the Tocumen in Panama City (PTY)?
Thank you!
Robert B.
Dear Robert
Regarding your question be aware that United nor Delta takes 35"H crates. Copa does but does not take wood crates. DHL does but to Miami only. If you are going to Europe, KLM may take the crate but other details need to be taken into consideration. If your dog's breed is not a restricted breed, perhaps it would be easier to purchase a #700 series rigid plastic crate (35"H) rather than building a wood crate.

Cheers members,
For your information, COPA AIRLINES will have embargo of brachycephalic breeds starting June 26 until July 15, 2015 (can be extended).
If you need to ship brachycephalic breeds within these dates, we can assist with other airlines.

That is his email now. The old one had been hacked. Excellent service. We used him to clear our 4 dogs in January. He cleared our dogs within 30 minutes. If you would like to have your hands free in order to arrange your new home and you want the dogs for a couple of days in a kennel near Tocumen I recommend VIP very important pets at Cerro Azul for a couple of days. Excellent. Jose can collect them and bring them to your house.

I copied this info from my blog back in December of 2013. Although this is not necessarily the topic of discussion, this may be helpful and as far as I know is probably the most current.
Posting a current version to help others.
1. The pet must have a rabies vaccine within 1 year of your arrival but not less than 30 days of your arrival. This had to be given by a USDA accredited vet. 2. About 3 days before arrival (I sent 2 weeks prior), you must fax to MINSA a request for home quarantine. 507-212-9449. You can download this form at www.minsa.gob.pa 3. I hired Golden Frog (http://www.goldenfrog.net/index.htm) to meet me at the airport upon my arrival to help get me through customs/vet. Jose from Golden Frog also sent in the form to MINSA for home quarantine and sent to me as an attachment. So they actually got it twice which is good. You must have this form with the pet upon arrival to Panama. 4. Then within 10 days of your arrival, you must take the pet to the USDA accredited vet again and get the necessary vaccinations and the health certificate filled out (APHIS USDA form 7001) in BLUE INK. The vet then faxed to the USDA to verify everything was correct on the form. If it is not (in my case it was not as 1 number was missing from his microchip number) the vet will then rewrite it, sign again and fax it again until the USDA approves it. On the form it is very important that the rabies and vaccines manufacturer, date given, and batch numbers are written and when placing the dates it must be DD/MM/YY. Otherwise it is will be rejected. The vaccinations needed are as follows: DHLPP = (D)distemper, (H)hepatitis, (L) leptospirosis, (P)parainfluenza and (P)parvovirus. Your vet will call the USDA for the exact vaccinations needed. Also on the form the LICENSE AND STATE must be filled in (lower right corner) and the vet's NATIONAL ACCREDITATION NUMBER. 5. Once the USDA approves the form, take it to the nearest FedEx office. Make copies of all your forms before sending the originals. I also sent the Home Quarantine form for good measure and the separate rabies form I had. You only have a 10-day window so this is how I did it. I overnighted the form and fee $38.00 (check or money order) to USDA in my area which was New Mexico as I lived in Arizona. Inside their envelope was another prepaid overnighter to the Panama Consulate General (my location was Long Beach, CA) with a money order for $60.00 (new rate). Inside that envelope was a folded prepaid overnight envelope to me. I then had 3 tracking numbers and I watched them like a hawk. If I did not see the next tracking number moving by end of day I called and checked the progress. In my case both the USDA and Panama Consulate General placed their stamp and sent it on the same day they received it. I had my package back within 4 days. 6. If your pet is flying via cargo you need to give the originals to the airlines and keep the copies. If your pet is flying in cabin you keep the originals and the airline employee at the ticket counter made copies for the airlines. 7. Once I arrived at Tocumen in Panama, Lucy of Golden Frog was there waiting for me. I was attempting to collect my bags but it turns out Lucy wanted me to turn over my dog to her and because I did not understand that, the vet entered the baggage area and collected him from me. I got my bags and by the time they were all collected, the vet had completed whatever was needed for my dog and gave me the paperwork and my dog and from there I proceeded on through the baggage scanner. You must pay $130 for the home quarantine and $16 for MIDA import license. Total of $146 in cash. 8. If you are sending your pet via cargo, you will pick the pet up in the baggage area. Have some water for the pet as the pet will be thirsty. Of note: it was not necessary to have the APHIS form translated to Spanish. To the best of my knowledge a microchip is not required but very helpful for identification purposes. Your vet will have the APHIS form. If you want to fly your pet in cabin, do not use United Airlines as they will not allow a pet in cabin to Panama. If you are sending your pet via cargo, it would be wise to make a dry run to the cargo area at the airport so you will know where it is on the day of your travel. You will need to bring the pet to cargo 2-4 hours prior based on the rules of the airline you are using. Be very careful, and be sure to verify everything the cargo personnel do in regards to your pet. Make sure the destination is correct, double check everything they do, keeping in mind that these are people without any special certification and probably not much education in regards to handling of pets. You will also need to check the cargo or cabin carrier requirements for the particular airline you are using. The Panamanian Authorities at Tocumen offer services Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM. They are closed on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays.

Or follow the instructions in the attached document. Bringing pets into Panama is a whole different thing than shipping them out. You have to do the legwork in the U.S. yourself.
