Cool, Green and the best Coffee in the world
Dear Garden Enthusiasts,
My name is Stephanie Hoppe and I am posting you in regards to my garden program I have in Panama City, Panama. The projects name is Pot to Plate and it was founded by myself about 6 months in hopes of planting a garden with inner city children to teach them and give them something they can take care of. The project has been wildly successful and now I am in the process of seeking our non-profit status so I can continue growing this garden as well as start similar projects other places. The mission at Pot to Plate is: By teaching inner city youth how to grow a garden we cultivate knowledge about the environment, recycling, teamwork and provide an opportunity to learn English all while digging in the dirt! We currently work with a team of 25 children and a handful of volunteers. We meet 2-3 times a week where we carry out routine garden maintenance, recycled art projects and have healthy delicious snacks together!
We have encountered a few problems with the garden, many of them being from not selecting the correct plants for the climate. We discovered quickly that the extremeness of Panama is not necessarily the best environment for everything. Although we are seeking donations we also need garden advice.. If you could donate your knowledge and tips about tropical gardening ranging from soil to crop selection I would greatly appreciate it.
Please check us out on Facebook at www.facebook./pottoplatepanama!
Thank you so much for helping our garden grow!
