Permalink Reply by Robert Cook on May 16, 2012 at 11:31pm Tom, a good friend of mine and legendary local birding guide from Boquete has sadly lost a leg due to diabetes. I have already arranged to donate a wheelchair to him, but it would be a real blessing if you could put him on the list for a prosthetic leg. Please contact me!
Permalink Reply by Lisa Matthews on May 17, 2012 at 1:29pm Tom, I am happy to assist in you in your humanitarian efforts while in David, if help is needed. Thank you for your kindness and generosity. Your willingness to provide these services will change the lives of those who are lucky to receive your services upon arrival. Thank you, from the residents of Boquete.
Permalink Reply by Robert Cook on September 10, 2012 at 5:12pm It's been 4 months since my post to Mr. Thomas McCormack, and I've also sent him an email from my yahoo email account to his foundation with no response. Very strange.

Permalink Reply by Jefe Lady on September 10, 2012 at 7:44pm Has anyone put the man who made a plea for assistance at the Tuesday Meeting in touch with Mr. McCormack. He needed a leg. I did not get his name but others did and I hope they will make the connection.
Permalink Reply by Don Larsson on September 10, 2012 at 8:50pm A friend in the States and I are working with Tom to obtain the support he needs in moving his medical products and supplies to David. His efforts and accomplishments would be a terrific subject for "60 Minutes," or similar program. Tom charges NOTHING for his prostheses, whether it be legs, hands, breasts and wigs or other materials, like wheelchairs, hearing aids, hospital beds, water purification systems, etc. This list is very long and growing. Tom's services to the people of Chiriqui Province and Panama are enormous. If anyone knows or has contact with container companies or shipping companies, please help out. Tom gets the needed items; but he needs help in getting them here. Of course, donations are also thankfully accepted...and tax deductible.
Permalink Reply by jim and nena on September 11, 2012 at 7:39am Don Ray of Chiriqui Chatter has been posting Tom's efforts to help Panama.
Tom's website is McCormack Foundation and the next container is due about October (next month).

Permalink Reply by Lee Zeltzer on September 11, 2012 at 4:47pm I have been told this man has been collecting money for this leg for years. He appears less interested in the leg than the money. He has made no effort to get the leg.
Permalink Reply by Debbie on September 11, 2012 at 6:58pm I talked to him at Baru and he told me that he is aware of Tom but (and I don't believe him) $1500 is required. He also said a deposit is required before getting a leg with the rest due after getting the leg. I asked him why the $ and he had no answer. No, I did not misunderstand him at all. I asked him if this was from some sort of national health program or similar and he said it is from Tom.
Gee, I cannot wait to see him again ; )
