Got an unnanounced visit last night ( Sat about 7.30pm) in Alto Jaramillo from 3 members of the Jaramillo water board checking on sprinkler use. Seems some people have no water and the irrigation of grass or crops in the area is of concern.
They checked the property and we chatted a bit about the water issues. We are constantly on our guys about water conservation and use.We all want water to drink and bathe with.
So if you are using sprinklers, be aware and be considerate!

There is no irrigation water on Jaramillo.
Evidently, someone on the mountain (Jaramillo) who grows coffee--a lot of it--was using water from the aquaduct to irrigate. He was fined $150. The Water Board is serious--as well they should be. Some households have been without for a long time. Our has been sketchy--mud in the lines, air, low pressure. Sr. Carlos said that there is plenty of water at the aquaduct head, but that shoddy and non-existent engineering, theft of regulator valves, and poor pipes make delivery a problem during the dry season. Some of the piping requires the water to travel UPHILL more than a 30 foot elevation. Seems to me the former head of the water board who was in charge of project oversight and fiscal management should be held accountable for the over $200K that was used to build this system that fails to deliver.
We are indeed going dry and the current breezes are not helping.
MINSA has increased the fine if you use drinking water for agricultural use.
