One of my primary objectives in coming to Panama was to "Hug a Sloth"…yesterday, at Raquel's Ark, I got more hugs than I could have ever imagined.
My first hug came from the larger (adult) of the two Sloths that Raquel has. Then, I was handed the smaller one, who really hugs better. Yes, I had both at once and both were adorable. We put them in the tree to sun themselves and hang out for a bit while we went to see Raquel's other animals.
Raquel was a wonderful tour guide with loads of information about the creatures that we were seeing and handling. I can only share three pictures within this post, so I tried to show some variety, but I took 59 pictures during our trip. If anyone wants to see more of what Raquel has to offer, let me know and I will do my best to "share" our experiences. At least enough to give you the knowing that you are doing yourself a dis-service if you don't go check these lovable animals out for yourself!
And, don't just get in the car and play with your iPhone or game-boy on the road there or you will miss some of the most spectacular views I've seen since arriving in Panama six months ago. I felt like I was truly in heaven - completely among the clouds and amid the mountains. Breathtaking scenery, and fun roads to travel.

Deborah, I would love to see all your pics of Raquel's Ark. We don't drive and live in David so haven't been. Even though we occasionally support the project and Raquel has brought a couple of cuties to our home it's not the same as being there. My e-mail is catoosajojo@yahoo.com
Thanks in advance
Check your email!
I have and I think you very much. ;o)
Marion: Raquel's Ark is PERFECT! Her phone number is: 6466-9530
Hope it works out well for everyone! Let her know about my post on .ning, please? I promised her….
I agree that Raquel's Ark would be the absolute perfect place for this ocelot.
But hopefully we all remember that while Raquel takes in, cares for and supports all these unwanted, abandoned or homeless animals it doesn't come free to her. I'm sure donations are accepted and appreciated. It cost her over $400 a month just to feed them. That's not including the cost of any medical care or her employee to clean the enclosures and maintain the property. So many animals are coming in that she now needs to build additional enclosures as well. So please donate to this worthy cause if you can. A little or a lot, all is appreciated.
There is a post about an ocelot that needs a place to go. Can you give Marion contact information for Raquel?
