there has been an escalation of armed robberies, car jackings, and express kidnappings in panama city. more than 12 popular restaurant robberies in the last 10 days. so much so that we are moving from armed, free-zone shopping security, to now armed escorts around panama city's restaurants and malls. this usually happens with new political administrations. we have to band together, be aware and educate ourselves, and prepare for this reality if it moves to david or even boquete. they are attacking in teams, usually on motorcycles and always minors, so they are free from prosecution. if you have weapon permits, i suggest you retrain and always be ready. i'm not fear mongering, nor pushing any service or product. just an f.y.i.

Just like in Ferguson, Mo.
One last comment, currently I am working on an extensive report on "Crime and the Economy of Bocas, del Toro, Panama" that will be submitted to the US Embassy.
Crime and violence seems to be a way of life world-wide and societies best chance of combatting such issues is to explore the reasons for the violent crime and ways to improve, prevent and the legal systems role.
A problem or issue like crime has many factors:
A very brief overview is as follows:
1. Employment Opportunities and Salary in retrospect to the cost of living. When society is divided and basic needs are not met as displayed in Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, tension and socio-economic division will occur leading to crime.
2. Education including after school programs. Many students are released from school by 1:00 pm yet the parents work until 6:30 pm, this leaves an opportunity for the youth to get involved with criminals offering attention and expensive electronics, ect.
3. Socio-Economics and Theories on Crime
4. Prevention and Solutions including Security and Emergency Technology and Equipment
5. Laws and Enforcement
6. Environmental Employment Opportunities for Economic Growth
7. The Economic Benefits of less crime.
These are the photographs of the gang members that were committing robberies at restaurants in Panama City.
The guy in white shirt was the one on the video kicking the woman face.
Keith
In another tabloid type newspaper there is an article that cites a twit from the Ministerio de Seguridad where they say that the gang is composed by 14 members: 9 minors and 5 adults. It also says that 8 have been apprehended and they are in search for the rest of the gang.
Let see what happens to the minors. I hate that law that "protect" them from the full power of the law.
Yes the issue is the minors are released so there are no consequences for their actions.
The latest news reported that police identified the gang members and a couple of them are under arrest. People in Panama City wants that the guy that kick in the face a lady be arrested and beaten hardly for doing such barbaric act against a lady.
confusion, renegotiation of security contracts, loyalty to the previous admin. this happened years ago with other admin. the robbers stripped the restaurant patrons of their clothes, prompting the new ones to wear designer underwear.
