As we look at moving there next Spring/Summer I have a question about security and securing important documents. My first question is, we all have important information on our computers, sometimes even legal documents or passwords, etc. Do any of you suggest "not" storing important items on your computer at all, or just backing it all up to some type of cloud service, etc? Do any of you suggest having a safety deposit for such things at a local bank? My other question/concern too is what is the likelihood of having one's computer stolen from their home? If that happened, that's where all my concern comes from. I realize one needs to be aware and be safe and pay attention. So, just looking to hear how some of you protect your important information.

I can suggest on the backup part to maybe have some redundancy in the backups, you can use apps like one drive which you can make it sync the files /folders where u normally save the files to backup and it will make the autobackup in the cloud and also on an external hard drive or second computer as you want so if you lose one then you have 2 mores private backups.
I hope it can helps or make you an idea.

I am curious to know which banks in Panama offer Safety Deposit Rentals.
Thanks
I have one at Scotiabank in Alto Boquete.
Thank you Robert. Have a good day!
Send an email to the assistant manager of this bank at San Francisco Plaza (Alto Boquete). Danilo.fuentes@pa.scotiabank.com. Explain your status plans in Panama and the papers you need to open an simple savings account with Visa debit cards.
Thank you Robert. Have a great day!

A safety deposit box in a bank. Hide your laptop in a stupid place, such as under a very dirty kitchen towel.
That's what I did when they broke into our house in July 2015. I had an Ipad (old useless one in the kitchen and they took it. Also 2 very cheap old cell phones. I left also $ 75 on a table sticking out from under an ash tray. They did not take the laptop under the dirty towel. I lived in Nigeria and the Caribbean.
When you had this theft were you living in the Boquete area, or as you said: Nigeria and the Caribbean?
