My wife and I are just beginning our research into replacing our drop ceiling here in Boquete, and are hoping to get some knowledgeable and experienced advice from our fellow expats here on the Ning, as we have at times in the past. Currently we have the styrofoam type ceiling tiles, which are not ideal for sound, and quite an issue during the high winds with the flapping and the air pressure in smaller rooms. The roof is our next job, so sound suppression during rain isn't our only concern now, but will definitely play into the decision.
What are your experiences on the best type of ceilings, whether it be replacement tiles of a different type, wood (I don't look forward to warping or termite issues), etc? Any info or past experience is appreciated. Also, any suggestions on a quality/cost effective company or person to install would be helpful and greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

I put the rolled foil insulation in between the zinc and the dropped ceiling.
Franklin Jurado is on the Interamerican highway towards the Frontera. They are across the highway from Cochez, and just after Hospital Mae Lewis. Look for Super Pisos on the right; (the the BBQ place. Then the hospital, Hopsa (who also have them) and then FJ, which is set back a bit.
btw, FJ delivers to Boquete for no extra charge.
Hello Felipe, we have installed the PVC as Lee did and added and extra feature...insulating foam. We have the contact for the person that will go to your house and spray the whole ceiling or just a room. They have a new open cell foam that also insulates sound.
We also can put you in touch with the PVC installers. They will measure the ceiling and tell you exactly the amount of material that you need to order. You can order from the supplier in David and have it delivered to your door.
The PVC comes in many colors so you should visit the places that carry it to pick your color.
Call me for contact info 6683-8557 or send me a message. Thanks!
I used PVC tongue and groove strips. They are totally waterproof. They look sort of like wood, and are available in places like Franklyn Jurado in David. They are not expensive either and no problems in four years. The older ceilings were drywall and mildewed.
I've got them too, and they are great! They are available in a lot of places.
I too bought them from FJ, but you can also get them from Arc Mandarin, as well as a few other places.
About 4-6 different wood looking patterns.
Basically, plastic looking like wood planks.
