Just wanted to make you all aware of some information shared by my friend Jhayat that owns The Food Box......(salt of the earth people and a great little store) She and her husband live two blocks up from the store and she told me that last week there was a strange man in their neighborhood taking photos of all of the houses in the neighborhood. He looked to be in his 40's, bald, black and around six feet tall. Since this incident two dogs in the neighborhood have died abruptly, most likely poisoned. This is all the info I have....I just wanted to make you all aware to keep yourselves, your pet and homes as safe as possible. Perhaps I am being paranoid but this sounds like a set up for a robbery.

People of ALL Races, Ages, Sexes & Ethnicities' Commit Crimes
What WE used to call a 'Nosey Neighbor' is the Police (and the victims) Officers Friend.
Profiling is the Common Sense approach to fighting & preventing crime.
A complete description is almost as good as a photo but a photo is always better.
Any vehicle information and companion info is always helpful.
Male, 40's, Black, 6ft Tall, & Bald is a GREAT workable description, Clothing type and color would have also been helpful.
I find that asking some about vehicles may be confusing. Dirty, Clean, Color, 2 or 4 door, Big or small, loud exhaust, quiet, etc. Any and all license plate info.
Rainy, Cloudy ("inclement weather") days seem to be the criminals friend. Fewer people outside or even looking out the window during those times.
Keep up the Good Work Jana, Crimes cannot be solved without neighbors and or friends willing to go the Extra mile.
One footnote, Never underestimate Women to commit crimes or be willing accomplices.
I do apologize for my part in said pissing contest. Point taken and well received and agree wholeheartedly with every bit of your post. (:
Thank you Cindy. That is a very nice post and I appreciate it. I appreciate all of you, even we don't agree. Our greatest weapon against crime in my opinion is the strength of our community and I find that very beautiful. We have our own gang and it's pretty big and as long as we treat each other with kindness and respect I think we will be just fine. I certainly agree Cindy, we are put here to be of service to each other.Sometimes it takes something awful to be reminded of this. Yes The Food Box peeps are wonderful....I love the people I have met here both ex-pats and locals. I feel really lucky I've had an opportunity to experience this place.
Val, I am sorry you were robbed. It's a terrible feeling to have someone come into your private space and help themselves to your belongings. I't's not even so much the things they take that is so upsetting as it is the theft of ones sense of security. Unsettling does not to begin to cover the events that have transpired in our sweet Paradise in the last week. As a woman and Mother I am especially troubled. For the most part I think the people of this town are some of the finest people I could ever hope to know but we are not as i have heard said "In Kansas anymore". If I am considered hyper vigilant or bitchy I can deal with that. What I will not be is a target nor will I shut my mouth for fear of being unpopular if it has the slightest chance of sparing people what you have went through and worse.
I would also just like to extend some love to everyone in our community, I know I am not the only one reeling from these missing girls and news of this poor young man. My words were sharp today here and I really have to be put on the defensive to get like that because my natural state is to be a very kind and loving person. I will go a little hulk on behalf of the people I love and my community. We are all far away from people we love a whole lot and need to be considerate with the family we choose to be a part of here. Some of them we will not like or agree with, much like any other family. You did make some good points today Tim and I was not in a place to receive them because of some of the other things you said. I'm not feeling terribly concerned about being politically correct today but I will reflect another time on what you had to say with a mind wider open. Just not today but I wish you peace and I'm sorry I called you a jerk.
Im pretty tired of having to defend a public service announcement. I think you will find most women do not approach men that creep them out here.
Because a woman alone in her car who has lived in Panama her whole life knows better.
