When I look up Panama it says its using EST, same as Miami, New York, etc. But when I ask everyone for the time, it is set an hour earlier like Central Standard Time CST, Why is that? Why don't we call our time zone here in Panama CST if we are truly an hour earlier than everyone in EST in the US?

Yes Judy, that will work, by coincidence. "EST with no DST" mimics our time zone, which when Googled, is
Panama, Time zone
Eastern Standard Time is an official time zone term used only by the U.S. and Canada - it is not an international timezone.
Both of the above replies are basically correct time-wise.
The international time zone for Panama is "UTC -05:00"
UTC means "Coordinated Universal Time" and in 1972, it replaced "Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) as the global standard.
On my computer, I select Lima, Peru as the city for a time zone, and Lima is in the same time zone as Panama, which is typically not listed as a choice. Daylight savings time is not used in Panama or Peru.

You can use Bogota for a time zone. Is listed and have the same time like Panama.
A solution to this annual problem would be metric time, very simple.....1 min 100=sec, 1 hr=100 min, 1 day 100 hrs etc.....
thanks, i get it now.
