As we all know it`s dry season, so a lack of potable water is usually inevitable. We live in El Frances and are now on day 12 with no water. We are not alone some neighbors are without also. Yet down the road a small way, everything is fine, lots of water. We`ve signed a petition, took it to the mayor`s office, what a joke that is, we get the usual array of excuses, fixing the resivoir, a truck backed into the pipes, broken lines etc. it all comes down to no pressure, evidently, some guy turns areas off and others on, at various times. It was asked if he could open the valve more, this time the excuse was, he was going to, but someone, said if he did they`d kill him, go figure. We are so fed up with this, we thought Panama was a great place to retire,, now I just want out and to head back home.

Does Panama not have any real water pipes, the kind they use in the USA?
No they use mostly PCV pipe here, which is a heavy plastic.............
Do you own real estate in El Frances?
Yes we do.....................why.
Uh oh...... Because it takes a long time to dispose of property in Panama. Easy to buy, a nightmare to sell.
And actually we do want to sell.
If misery loves company, it may soothe the burn to know that you're not the only one who didn't think to ask about water availability before moving in. Boquete has never had reliable water, ever, and the more development that goes in, the worse it gets. You're right, it's not that great to retire here: just wait until the grass fires start. Or the power goes out and you need a breathing machine for your sleep apnea. Or someone accuses you of some random infraction, and you discover that napoleonic law dictates that you are guilty until your innocence is proven. Or you have a heart attack, and the ambulance driver is having lunch in Bugaba with his girlfriend. The truth could very well be that someone did threaten to shoot your water nazi. That happens here too. No water for flushing your toilet is the tip of the no-iceberg. Sell now while prices are still high and go to a place with more reliable water. Im not trying to be a bitch to you, but the unfortunate truth is, that water is a non-negotiable necessity and Boquete can't guarantee it. Good luck with your move back "home."
Sorry to hear that Jeff. :(
12 days without water is truly intolerable. I hope things get better for you soon.
