Hola Boquetenos,
My wife and I (after 4 years), have decided to give Boquete another look. For us, it's about a quality retirement.
I am purchasing the new updated Boquete (Not For Tourist) book.
We are planning a week vacation next year, but first things first. What is absolutely the best month to travel there, to avoid Holidays and government closures? I seem to remember November being a bad month there. We want to sail thru the process and enjoy ourselves.
We're still 5 years or so from our target retirement date, and our vacation is as much fun as fact finding. We figure if we're there a whole week, we can cover most weekly activities, meet some wonderful people, as well as talk to those most knowledgeable in Boquete life.
Do they still have the Tuesday morning meetings?
Thanks in advance for any info, we are really looking forward to our trip.

I have another question, has anyone used Panama relocation tours to get some insight into life in Panama?
Disregard my last post. Too expensive for us. Can you rent a cell phone for short visits?
Hi again. Still on track for our April 2019 visit. New question; how difficult is it to relocate with a pet, (small dog), to Panama? I can't imagine I could go anywhere and leave my little buddy behind. Thanks.
Goldenfrog.com. José Saenz speaks well English. He can advise you what paper work you need.
He cleared within 40 minutes our 4 dogs. He has a mini bus. The only thing is that you need a hotel in PC allowing dogs. José knows. He will meed you where you bag are being checked at the check out. No problem.
I found out it’s goldenfrog.net. Thanks for the info.
That’s awesome. Why do I need a hotel, if I clear immigration and want to move on?
First you said "visit". Then you said "relocate". Which are you doing? Do not bring your dog for a short visit. It is a great bit of trouble and expense. Only bring your dog if you are relocating here. You not only need documentation to bring him in. You have to get an export permit to take him back out.
Go to Chiriqui Life website and look for "Maggie's List" at the beginning of the web page. It will tell you everything you need to know about how to bring in a pet. It is not hard, but takes planning and cash to pay for their entry when they arrive. All of this is spelled out in that document.
Thanks Judy. Yeah sorry. It was two different thoughts at once. We are planning a visit next year, and we would not bring our pup. I was just thinking down the road, if we liked the area. Sorry about the confusion. Thanks for the info. I will look at the website.
After all that reading, on Maggies List, what do think the total cost is? Of course with the exception of the airline tickets. I too live in Texas, so I can kind of relate to the gentleman who had to travel to Austin. I'm not sure why he traveled to Houston though. I guess I have to read it again. Thanks for telling me about the site again, it's very helpful, if I get that far.
Besides what you pay the vet to get the health certificate and the cost of the USDA apostille, and what the airline charges for transporting your pet (varies depending on carrying in cabin vs. cargo), the other costs are listed in Maggie's List.
$30 to get the Panama embassy stamp on the health cert + FedEx cost to send the certificate and have it returned to you
$130 to get the pet admitted to Panama
It cost me a total $300 to bring in a cat 14 years ago. This was for everything, including what I paid for the carriers.
