Just made the plane reservations and, after a couple of nights in Panama City, we'll arrive in your lovely town on September 18, planning to return on September 29.
I've made hotel reservations in Panama City but haven't figured it out for Buquete. We'd like to keep this all on a tight budget and want to maintain some flexibility with where we'll stay. So, we're focusing on B&Bs and hostels. I've looked and looked at all the reviews for hostels and am getting wildly differing opinions on them. So, I'm appealing to the experts here. All we need is a clean room in a quiet area, with a private bath. Any suggestions for a couple on a budget and ready for an adventure?
Also what's going on around town that we don't want to miss? Our goal is to get to know the people and town with a view to making it permanent in January 2015. You'll see us around town looking at places to live, checking prices on food, pharmacies, and all the other things that make a place a home. A big part of that is meeting the rest of the community - we're ready to volunteer wherever we're needed in order to make a life in Boquete. So, if there are any get togethers planned, we've love to meet everyone.
Finally, if anyone needs anything from up this way (we're coming from Dallas) and we can fit it into the suitcases, let me know!
Looking forward to meeting everyone,
Ned and Sharon

Hi Sharon, my wife as a Ladies group who meet every Tuesday at 2,30pm at the Posada Pizza restaurant, you are welcome to join them and you can get all the informations you need to live happily in Boquete......call, 7204178.
sWe've got our travel and lodging requirements all sorted out. Now I'm jotting down all the suggestions for places to meet up with the community.
Thanks for all the suggestions!
We'll see y'all (how do I say y'all in Spanish?) in a few weeks.
Ned
@Ned; it's Ustedes.
Hello!! Usually when I visit i rent a casita from someone. I like having a kitchen available and they're usually pretty reasonable. Perhaps post in the rentals section on this site to see who has a vacancy.....As far as hostals go the only one I've stayed in was Refugio Del Rio for a few days. I liked it there. Another you could try is Hospaje Primavera. Mother and daughter run the place and are lovely people. I always stop by to chat with them (in my broken Spanish) when I'm in the area. Rooms are nice and some have kitchen as well. I've always wanted to stay there since they're so nice but have usually found other accomodations. Buenos suerte!!
Dear Ned: I too am a 20 something trapped in an older body. When I came here 3 months ago I stayed at Hostal Boquete. It is ideally situated near the Central Park close to everything. I didn't find it noisy and there is a community kitchen where you can cook. Private bath also and it was $33/night. Another hostel is the Refugio del Rio. VERY nice right near the river with a hot-tub. I'm not sure of the rates, but I think it is reasonable, plus you can volunteer at the hostal and get a discount. A lot of backpackers pass through, but that's what makes it interesting for those of us "locked" in older bodies, but with young minds. My number here is 507 6954 4936. Good luck.
three out of the four trips I made I stayed at Hostal Boquete, by the bridge...right downtown....last time I stayed with a friend, but Hostal Boquete always treated me well...except once ,at fiesta time , music gets very loud...I will be going 9/5 to 9/14 this time, but plan on staying with friend...and if it doesn't work out I will try hostal Boquete again...going to visit this time with my youngest daughter...we fly in from Houston.
As far as accommodations, I agree with the suggestion of El Oasis, great location and service. Breakfast is included and very nice. The Restuarant has an exceptional cocktail and dinner service!
Check out what the local charity Bid 4 Boquete has up for bids in the lodging section. Several of the hotels mentioned in this topic are there for the bidding or buying:

Be sure to catch the Tuesday Morning Market and Informational Meeting each week at BCP (Boquete Community Players) Theater and Events Center.
(9:30-12:00) Chat with folks and say you are "Exploring" .. all are very friendly.
Many local folks come there and meet and knosh and look around and buy stuff.
It is centrally located next to the Oasis hotel and across from the Feria Grounds, just across the bridge (easy walk) from center of town.
Unfortunately there are no productions at BCP planned for September.
Up the hill going out of town past the church is the Panamonte Inn..old historic place with the best bar in panama (IMO).
We have stayed at Isla Verde, Villa Marita, Boquete Garden Inn and El Oasis. All were nice but El Oasis became our favorite. They have a weekly rate and the smaller rooms (not suites) come with a very nice full breakfast.
