I have a general idea, but I want to know if it would replace cable onda? I would like to be able to see the shows from home as they are televised. Can you get Sons of anarchy for example? (My secret vice)

 Popcorn & Crackle are both Free and can be accessed for movies. I buy ROKU's direct from ROKU.com because they will have sales up to 20 dollars Off normal MSRP. I also watch nowheremanTV on the ROKU. hundreds of FREE channels. News, Sports, Documentaries, Movies, Educational, Comedy, etc  Another good one is BW TV, old black & white TV, Grouch Marx, Milton Burl, Lone Ranger, Gun Smoke, etc you name it

I just installed the hola extension on chrome, (with a US IP address), did a speed test and found it was about a 16% reduction in my download speed. Since I am starting with 1 meg, this is a significant drop for any kind of streaming, and 1 meg is barely watchable at full strength.

Also Suzanne, the discussion of blu ray players did not point out that not all blu ray players have the ability to stream shows from the internet. It would need to be a "smart" blu ray player to do that.

In our experience, full HD streaming works best with at least 3 megs per simultaneous devices. However, if you use you ROKu for setting up a virtual server with your PC, 2 megs works fine. We have been doing lots of work and tests with our ROKU and we are very happy about it :). I already got some fellow country men interested on the player and our site just gets crazy with traffic every week. With only two weeks of uploading content to the site and YouTube channel, we already got 2k visits. Hopefully we will keep posting more videos as new apps and channels add up to ROKu. In two weeks or so, I think we will upload a private video about how to fully turn various roku players and your PC into a fully loaded movie theater :P yup we found a cool website with the latest movies. I already streamed Meet the millers to two ROKUs at my place, simultaneously and in full HD.

I have had 2 Samsung BluRay players over the last few years (the most recent purchased last year atPanafoto) and they both had great streaming abilities. The newer ones are definitely "Smart players" that handle the Torrentz downloads as well as Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc. I couldn't be happier with Samsung TVs and BR players. They're not very expensive either.

I think that for the roku you do need yo setup a dns in your router as well as with your smart TV. If you plan to watch Netflix on your PC, its another story. So it all depends were you are watching your series
