My wooden front door always is the first indication of a quake; it bangs hard against the metal hinges, like someone is trying to break in. Definitely one of the strongest and longest I've experienced here in 6 years. Unlike the advice for urban dwellers NOT to leave a building (downed power lines, etc.), here my plan is to get outside fast. Was in motion to do just that when I felt it subside.
Mark Heyer's post indicates a 6.8 off the coast; the usual fault line area. I lived in the San Francisco area for 25 years; each earthquake is unique...last night's was a long roller coaster ride!
Woke us up in Brisas Boquetenas at 1:36. Agree that it felt like being on a ship. Biggest and longest we've experienced.

WOW...that certainly woke me up here in Oriana!! I have never felt anything like that in the 7 years we have been here! Walls were creaking, windows jiggling, the floor was wavering and it lasted a long time!!!

Whoa is right! Very strong in Alto Boquete at 1:36 am. Rocking recliner looked weird rocking like crazy with no one in it.
It awakened husband who lived in California for years and usually sleeps right through them.
